i don't see the point of this question. you got the gig playing a certain kind of music, so play that! "dance with the one who brought you", as they say.

i would have posted this in the "Brag about your accomplishments" thread

Play glitch hop or something similar if you feel you need to change it up... But I'd just go with what won you the competition, realizing that the crowd of that particular night is not there for you and may not be feeling what you're playing.

I already asked one of the managers what they were expecting of me, I just wanted to get some input from the DJ collective.

Props to whoever mentioned a trak, reqlly great idea, idk why i didnt think of it.I think I'll draw some heavy influence from him for this set. Thanks for the input everyone, I really appreciate it. To the haters who think I made this thread to brag, you suck at reading. This is the most awkward gig I've ever played and one of the most confusing times I've ever had preparing for a show. I already began talking to the people who are running the event, but they aren't DJs - I wanted to see what the collective thought of my situation. You guys have always had really great input on problems I couldn't solve. For example, the A Trak thing. Neither me or the managers would ever have thought of that. I got inspiration from you guys. That's why I made the thread.

EDIT: making some corrections. I wrote this on my iPhone, sorry my sentence structure is so weird.

imho genre isnt SO important opening for an act. of course you wouldn't play polka or classical mozart opening for ludacris so don't turn my words against me. anyways. what's more important is PERFORMING. as in displaying something interesting to the crowd. bust out the scratch and juggling skills to house music if you want! just know you're not playing tracks reading the crowd at a club. i mean, you can... if you want to i guess.. but opening for shows you have to display some kind of skill set.

I have actually been in a similar scenario. I was opening for Three 6 Mafia at my school and in between there was a local indie rock band. It was definitely an strange mix, but I just stuck to the house that I usually spin. It turned out alright seeing as most of the people attending were from my school so it was easy to play to the crowd.
