Traveling club DJ's get a similar request: "we can fly you and pay for your hotel but that's it. Don't you wanna come DJ in california?" ....not that bad.

U gotta b starving 2 dj for food haha where would this wedding b taking place anyways?
Tell him you will work, for money.
I've never gotten that one but I tell you what I do alot of bartering for my services...I am getting my mom's house painted from a professional painter who came with great references...I am doing his daughters wedding and wedding reception...I also do get invited to alot of parties...but food...man some people have the nerve and really don't respect our industry huh!
Get the same shit here sometimes. People asking how much it costs to let me DJ their prom for the whole night, then I tell them that for 150 euros I do everything: bringing own gear, setting it all up, paying the transport costs, and DJing all night long on my own. I even would've done it for 100. Quite reasonable if you ask me. The answer: "sorry that is out of our budget, we'll look for something else."
Yeah, like plugging in an iPod or hiring Scumbag Steve X with his Winamp playlist for a crate of beer...

These are the new generation of people who think all music comes from you tube and probably don't know the difference between a home stereo and a pa system
You got to explain to them what a dj service is about and that way justify you price
(I would dj for food now thought it's lunch time here lol )
