Even the Chauvet panels are expensive and honestly, they suck. They are a pain in the ass to put together and fragile. Not to mention you need to be at LEAST 20 feet away from them to distinguish any picture when using them for video. In a small area, they would be pointless because they would reflect light so bright on the walls that any "lightshow" coming from them would be equally as pointless.

How much are you looking to dump into this?
If you're waiting for LED panels to drop in price, you're going to be waiting for a long time. I'm pretty sure that even the shitty Chauvet panels are something like 7k each.
