Can't utility be on par with a direct comparison of a product of equal utility, like another turntable? Is there not multiple models of Technics that provide the same utility as one with a high gloss finish, gold plated tonearm and signatures on the platter?
The utility is no more or less than another comparable turntable, and in this case the Mk3 or M3g would be close comparisons and are of the same utility.
However, your original statement is incorrect, because utility is not the same as value. The perceived utility of the item might contribute to a higher value, but utility is only a single aspect of the perceived value. For instance, a diamond ring has next to know functional utility but has a high value because of a limited supply and an artificially inflated demand (This is why I push for man-made diamonds; www.nexuslabs.com <-- American made diamonds).
