jazzy Drum & Bass that uses lots of real instruments ?

    hi

been out of the D & B game about 14 years now. completely disconnected with the music, playing other genres for the most part.

and im rekindling my interest in d & b, but im particularly interested in getting to know some jazzy or latin influenced D & B

not necessarily heavy dancefloor stuff, more loungy thinking stuff

the more live instruments and vocals the better, sax, trumpets, pianos, vocals, double bass, guitar, etc.......

i would appreciate if anyone would point me towards some artists , lables or tunes i should check out, thanks

I'm in a similar situation, used to mix DnB kinda fell away from it. I was going to try going on beatport and searching through the different DnB genres, I think Intelligent or nu-Jazz DnB is what we're looking for. Truth is live instruments can be mixed into any genre so may just have to start going through tracks.

Check out the jazzsticks label. Paul sg, Decon, phat playaz, Command Strange, Dynamic, Brother, Calibre all pretty much specialise, in jazzy dnb.

Can't really help out with Latin dnb which is current only stuff that came out 8 years ago.

    God I'm getting old...

old because you know d & b from 8 years ago? well i just mentioned that i gave it up almost 14 years ago ..... so you not that old !!!!

i cant thank you enough doppleganger this info has been very helpful.
still on the look out for more depth and variety, especially more vocal driven songs with lead singers rather than just beats, bass with vocal samples layered over it. (more suggestions welcome )

but what you have given is definitely on the right track.

    thanks for the input!!

jazzy drum'n'bass hasn't been made much for the last while. a lot more jazzy/latin stuff was coming out around 2001-2005-ish when the whole liquid funk thing was exploding and hospital rec. didn't suck ball sacks. you could try to find old soul:r, hospital, phuturistic bluez, defunked, creative source, tangent, renegade recordings, fokuz, liquid v, innerground, movement, or sound trax stuff which would fit the bill.

Is your head stuck in the sand or something? Jazzy DnB is being churned out a lot nowadays. Back in 2006 it wasn't being made as much as it is now.

    Always happy to help

If you're after jazzy vocal stuff check out London Elektricity's earlier albums like Billion Dollar Gravy and Pull the Plug. Both are classics and over 10 years old now. Moving Shadow also went through a very very brief Jazzy stage, releasing tunes like Walk This Land "99 Mix" (I presume you know of the original), Ez Rollers released a few jazzy tracks on them like Tough at the Top. Also check out the Guardians of Dalliance's Album Diffusion Rooms. Tracks like Transient on there are I imagine what you are looking for.

Also check out the artist Pennygiles on youtube. He did a tune called Leylas Last String which is free to download from his soundcloud page.

man im glad you mentioned diffusion rooms!! one of my all time favourites. i have the vinyl.

also drumfunk hooliganz compilations, and EZ rollers stuff from around 1996/7, and the likes of alex reece or danny breaks this was exactly the d n b that i liked the most.
i dont know what got into to EZ rollerz after that.. they went terribly cheesy, same happened to John B after his first album

i should also mention fernanda porto - sambassism which is the kind of tune i really dig
and anything with good musical reggae fusions , isaac maya straddles that line between 'reggae' and 'latin' quite well.

maybe we have different definitions of what constitutes "jazzy". also, i don't really pay attention to digital only stuff.

I really like jazz and latino influenced drum and bass because it makes a relaxing change to harder dnb and I don't normally like guitars in any type of EDM but when it's done like this it keeps you hooked. This style is perfect for a beach party or just chilling out under the sunset.

I used Sex In Space as my practice track when learning to beatmatch dnb because it was crisp and had a clear percussive sound with a few breaks thrown in.
