    DJ/Producer Biographies

Why is it that a lot of DJ's and producers have bios that make it sound like they are the second coming of jesus christ? I mean, I know promotion is important, but where do you draw the line for what you say?

DJ whoever has been crushing dancefloors like the apocalypse crushes all humanity every weekend for the past 8 months. In just a short amount of time, DJ Whoever has managed to rise through the ranks of millions of wanna-be's and completely dominate the local scene. The amount of bass he drops on the dancefloor can be compared to 5 billion tons of TNT, and with only the sickest remixes that a select few know about, he makes the ladies' panties literally melt right off. With mega huge awesome bro love support from the universe's TOP dj's and producers in the arena, this DJ's success seems absolutely unlimited to known bounds of awesomeness. Watch out for DJ Whoever coming to blow your town to smithereens, steal your girlfriends, and literally take your mayor and slit his throat with bass before leaving for the next target.

I'm just wondering because I have a more modest bio on my page, but I'm not really sure what's appropriate. No one knows who I am (yet! ha), so it doesn't really matter for now, but if more people begin to notice me and I can get bookings, is it going to matter what I say for my bio? If I use keywords like 'meteoric rise to fame' and 'blowing away dancefloors', does that actually make me more attractive for future gigs/sales as opposed to a more modest statement?

this made me spit out my tea a little bit, too funny. but to answer your question... no, overblown bios make you seem like a jerk-off. which i guess is nice in a way because it lets people know you're a jerk-off before even thinking about booking or coming to see you.

on the other hand, a modest or decent bio probably won't help you get bookings any way. in my experience, people who actually know wtf they're doing aren't making a decision of whether to bring you on for a night based on an 'about you' section. sure, it's helpful (and standard) to list your affiliations but that's about it. if you're big enough where you or someone else thinks you need an actual, full-fledged bio, you're also likely already working with a booking agency that covered that shit for you.

but then on the other (third???) hand, having a sentence or two going into greater detail of said affiliations can be helpful - although much more so for the person promoting the party than for your benefit of getting booked in the first place.

one more random thought: if you are going to have a bio, the shit you write should actually be pertinent and specific - that's where i'd draw the line. vague lines like 'dj usedcondom rocks dancefloors all over the world every. single. fucking. time.' says nothing about you, it's fluff and no one cares. instead, try 'dj usedcondom played the main stage at scrotumfest 2027'. substitute 'dj usedcondom produces straight up bang4rz' with 'dj usedcondoms most recent release was on thefloornexttomybed records and garnered support from the likes of paul oakenfold', etc. etc. etc.

One of my friends is seriously considering starting "For the Lulz Promotions" as a company…basically, really low rates and lots of twitter/facebook spam that's all just based on being drunk and funny.

Based on what I see in DJ bios…it might actually work. And that makes me want to drink myself into tears.

This was the funniest Bio Ive seen from a producer and respect him for it:

    ------------
Born exactly nine months after Frank Aquilera set the world frisbee distance record (168m) in Las Vegas and Bruce McCandless made the 1st untethered space walk, Vodge Diper knew he was destined for things larger than himself.

Even from a young age this prestigious producer knew that writing a bio in the third person was his calling in life. He realized quickly that one of the best ways to start such a bio would be to make up a bunch of stuff about how his parents spent years touring the world with great acts like Mozart, Feed Me, and Depeche Mode, when the truth was that he secretly listened to Tubular bells and Thriller on vinyl when his parents were out. After this period of his life it wasn't long before talk of his early influences gave way to lists of top shelf DJs and slightly shorter sentences.

Having listened to songs played by such world renowned artists as Cold Blank, Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner, he gained the confidence that was needed to bring his own brand of winning to the International stage. He is a keen follower of cutting edge music technology and consequently decided to take a leap of faith and create a Facebook fan page. This went down a storm, with everyone from his best friends to his family joining within days. It was at this point he realized that he could finally fulfill his calling in life.

His Soundcloud page on the other hand reads like a corset of sonnets dealing with the tragic difficulty of being both an introverted superstar and a simple 3rd person bio writer at heart. However knowing that if he could sum up his life in a 500 word bio he would die of sheer embarrassment, all he asks is that you experience the hype for yourself. But remember, one day he might decide to destroy you all.
    -----------

Most of the bio's are all bullshit anyway. Half of what is said is not even true Ive found.

I'm about to get signed by a label, here it is, in a nutshell:

Remixes of classic tracks, club anthems, house, acid, trance, progressive, electro, pop, whatever rocks his boat as long as it makes you feel like dancing and going nuts. Manu produces seamless, flawless mixing, and gives the ultimate experience, mixing a range of different music styles in a way that no other DJ does. Check it out for yourself.
I must say, it's short, nice and accurate

I also have a slightly longer bio on my website...

    ^^ haha.

Found it. This was the bio I was referring to. I vaguely know the duo through friends and classes

****** emerged onto the electronic music scene, in early 2009, not with a bang but with a sonic boom. Establishing themselves, from the start, as electronic music’s own “digital elite”.They quickly made a name for themselves by causing a near panic every time they hit the decks, equipped with their throbbing bass lines and frantic melodies. Fueled by hype generated from their two-time, number one position on Hype Machine (Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll ****** remix), as well as a recent feature on the Mishka Blog, ********* began tearing down clubs all over the Country With a live performance more akin to a hardcore punk show than an electronic act, they take you on a journey from 130 to 175 Beats Per Minute with effortless transitions and enough double-drops to make your neck snap. For the ****** boys, no genre (or level of debauchery for that matter) is off limits.

It is this incredible versatility that makes ********* first on the list of performers sought after to help pack a dance floor and cause a frenzy. Having shared the stage with everyone from Dubstep’s dark lords Deathface and Datsik, to electro pop phenoms Designer Drugs, Data, and Frankmusik.

Influenced by everything from Drum & Bass to Indie Dance Rock and Post Punk, they’re production style is every bit as heavy as it is melodic, working sounds from all over the EDM spectrum into one concise dance-floor slaughtering package. They’ve landed on a very detailed, intricate, and heavily layered brand of Electro, a far cry from the “Bangers” on which they first made their mark. Recently, they’ve incorporate the musical stylings of Electro House, Dubstep and Drum & Bass into their own massive, big room, super-genre. However you choose classify it, one thing is for certain, the sound is heavy, infectious, and refreshing in a market overly saturated with unimaginative and unexciting production.

In 2010, ********, now a two-man operation, was signed to ****** Records by West Coast tastemaker/So Sweet Records Co-Founder Eli Smith, and UK Billboard Top 100 Electropop superstar, Frankmusik.Immediately following the signing, they embarked on a multi-city West Coast tour featuring dates in Los Angeles alongside Major Lazer at Avalon/Bardot, as well as Florentine Gardens, and even making a stop to tear down Steve Aoki’s famed Dim Mak Tuesday’s.

Currently they are putting the finishing touches on their debut EP, “Drop City,” slated for release on Beatport, iTunes, and other Internet retailers in December, as well as working on commissioned remixes for Crystal Vision and Franmkusik amongst others. Armed to the teeth with an arsenal of fresh heaters, and even more original production in the pipeline, it appears that these two Midwest party monsters are about to permanently make their mark on the EDM community, and do some major damage to the nightclubs all over the world, unfortunate enough to have to host them on a nightly basis.

Make your own stereotypical bio: http://djbio.nickjames.ca/djbio.php
    Website: NickJames.ca
    → CDJ-900s, DJM-800, Serato SL3, HDJ-1000s (Main), HD-25 Adidas Editions (Backup)
    → Reddit: omers on /r/DJs and /r/Beatmatch

Here's the one I use for everything:

DJ Elroy is the man with a plan.
He’s been mixing records since before your mom was seen doing lines off the floor of Studio 54′s DJ booth. He is an innovator in his own right and has led the evolution of dance music from the 70s disco era into the club scene of the 80s to the rave scene of the 90s and right into the 21st century! You may not know this, but in recent years Elroy has spawned several of his own sub-genres (including tizzy-house and its European offshoot sprochno).
Being pegged as a one trick pony is so 1998. DJ Elroy has overcome the typecast hurdle by throwing down the gauntlet on all genres and effectively making them his bitch. All of them. Critics have called him the “Chuck Norris of the dance music industry,” and he has lived up to the moniker.
El-Rizzle (as he known to close friends) has been seen giving mixing pointers to the legendary John Digweed and swapping new skratching techniques with the infamous Q-bert. He has headlined some of the biggest events in the state but has put his live performance schedule on hold to bring you this wonderful website. He is a member of the prestigious Masons, the Illuminati, and the NRA.
DJ Elroy spends his free time building tire-swings for starving children in Denver’s inner-cities and plans to be the first electronic music artist to walk in space.
    Serious bios are douchey
