Thread: What did you accomplish DJ-wise during the blackout?

  1. #11
While DJF was down, I did some special big gigs in October (Masskara 2011). Thurs nights at the club/bar (Opus Manila) I regularly play at. 2012 New Years eve party at the pool side of Sofitel Hotel, played at the Land Rover Evoque grand launch, finished 9 complete refurbished decks in three months and did some other minor gigs.

I have secured a few new gigs, stepped up my game a bit in my residency. Also got into production a bit better and finally got a place rented for a studio..

I wouldn't say accomplished, but since I've been "out of the game" in the LA scene since 1996. I am currently (slowly but surely) spinning at events, and currently hold a residency in LA's premier after-hours, Secret Cinema. If you live in LA and ever want to go, hit me up. >>> Peep the 2012 roster, a few LA Legends up in it >>>

during the blackout i been pretty busy , dumped my promoter who was more interested in promoting himself than anything else,
    started promoting my own gigs

& got a residency in the nightclub of my youth, the place where i first learned what djing was all about.

also got a little bit better at scratching

so pretty chuffed, but very happy indeed that DJF is back , this place has helped me in leaps and bounds.

great job omar glad to see you are out and about once again! as for my accomplishments, i learned alot production wise with ableton my goal at the start of the spring before my journey to far off lands once again. you can get alot done with 2-3 hours a day just messing with things. still trying to figure this rerub thing out but im slowly moving forward with that. started getting into the techy minimally side of things as i try to produce, i know makes no sense but its what happens when i start laying down some beats. got a few gigs lined up so far this year and just wanting to get more into production.

I won a mix competition (of ~160 entries) to have my mix played on BBC Radio 1 on Jaguar Skills' show. That was pretty sweet.

Also, just the other day my clubnight brand got given the green light to program or organise the entire Dance Music element of a festival that got shortlisted for the UK Festival Awards last year. Really excited to get stuck into that too Along the same lines as that, we got approached by a large international clubnight brand who wanted to work with us on some events, potentially going on a UK tour with them as support DJs too.

Not strictly DJing but I went to the Bugged Out Weekender in Bognor Regis a couple of weeks ago to cover it for our blog and basically lost my mind to DJ sets from the likes of Fake Blood, The 2 Bears, Green Velvet, Jackmaster, Joy Orbison, Julio Bashmore, Ben UFO, Simian Mobile Disco, Waifs & Strays, Eats Everything, Claude Von Stroke and Diplo. Horrible drunken memories of attempting to 'interview' Joe Goddard in the 2 Bears dressing room :-/ *cringe*
‎"When you get so overly involved in the music scene you kinda tend to dance less. You get to a club and you usually know the promoter or the DJ, and you end up socialising instead of going nuts on the dancefloor. It’s shit actually.” - Jackmaster

Starting to exploit some contacts that might turn into something.
Sold my Traktor 2 rig and went back to Technics, SSL, and a Vestax……like I was spinning on 5 years ago.
Got a job in a recording studio.
Really got the bug to start producing.

played my first gig that was more than a house party. 100+ people. set was planned to be two hours long but i ended up playing three. got loads of positive feedback and the floor was packed for almost two hours straight (i was the first act so i was playing when people tumbled in one by one at the beginning). i also launched my facebook fanpage.

oh and i survived a Dubstep event

I haven't touched my tables since I bought my house. My main goal has been just to get everything setup and to start playing again. Spun at a Christmas party which turned out to be a good time. Still trying to make some time to get my sets back in order then maybe I'll start doing faderwave again.
