    I know I'm showing my age here...

    But I just have to ask. Many moons ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and only nerds had computers, we SF Bay party folk used to figure out what we were doing on the weekends by checking out the event listings on SFRaves/hyperreal.org. After a while, I was plugged into enough people that I didn't even need to do that. However, an injury-mandated break and four years in Oregon have essentially made every resource I used to use for party-finding obsolete. SFRaves is essentially dead, still online but not updated since 2006, and the hyperreal main page seems even more abandoned.

    To cut straight to the point: what resources are people using these days to find parties they like?

    I'm not sure if this will help, but I know this site is relatively active. Also hit up Budzak and Hygro. They are in the bay area, and I am pretty sure they have an idea of what is going on around there. Good luck.

    Facebook. Friend DJs or promoters, they will invite you. You will work your way to the music you want. What scenes are you looking for?

    depending on your scene...sfedm.com is pretty helpful. mostly club events tho

    SFR, from what I've heard, is pretty dead. I don't visit it at all, though. Facebook really is where most of the events are posted nowadays. BayRaves has a calendar of sorts, but beware: That site is full of assholes aka jaded ex-ravers that would rather tell you to drink bleach than help you at all.

    Galaxy Raver is a far more pleasant place, but also with a much stronger tendency toward the underground. You won't find much love for WOMP or EPR there, but it's still a good community with a pretty good calendar. It's just that it's a very small community (though being used to DJF's crazy numbers may skew my perception a bit).

    Or, you could just friend me on FB and I'll forward you all the events I get invites to

    Thanks for the links, I'll have a look later this evening when I have more time.

    I've already located a lot of the psytrance people, which is the scene I'm most into. However, there aren't events every single weekend, and sometimes my wife hits me with the "I want to go out and dance somewhere" line, and since I'm the music guy, I'm expected to magic up some fun for her. She only really likes high-tempo stuff (140-ish and up), so it can be challenging finding stuff that appeals to her sometimes.

    Like Hygro said, that's not the 'in' thing now, so events like that are harder to come by. Electro and Dubstep rule the roost =/ But there are still events like that to be had. Like the one I just forwarded you on FB

    EDIT: Just spammed your wall with events before realizing I should be "inviting" and not "sharing"

    I have to say that there is some events for Psytrance, but they are generally aimed at Burning Man folks/events/etc. You can hop on the Burning Man SF mailing list for starters. I know the LA list has had many different alternative-dance type stuff that isn't just Trance/House/Electro. I will have to say it's probably not weekly/monthly though, mostly one offs and fundraisers that have that style. Sea of Dreams and GhostShip both had some Psy, not a lot and only relegated to specific rooms, but it was there. Here are the BM lists:

    Good luck Penguin, there is a few events here and there, but ya have to really look hard for them like Rick & Justin were saying.

    :::LOGIC BOMB (TIP Records/Solstice, SWEDEN):::
    In the mid 90s Sweden was introduced to a new type of dance music brought back from the golden beaches of Goa, India by an adventurous group of friends. Parties were held deep in the mystic forests during summer and attracted a fresh new crowd, enthusiastic for these innovative sounds. Among this crowd were two freshly graduated computer engineers who were struck with a profound fascination for this new music. This enchantment led to the inception of the now infamous musical unit 'Logic Bomb', formed by Jonas Pettersson and Johan Krafft, in 1998. They released their highly thought debut album 'Headware', produced together with fellow Swede, Jonas Bergvall, on Spiral Trax in the year of 2000. Following up on the phenomenal success of 'Headware', their second album 'Unlimited' was released on leading English label TIP World in 2002. After years of silence, things were cooking once again in the bomb-lab, utilizing their highest quality, bleeding edge, digital technology married with the finest analog circuitry of the past they crafted an album that was both classic and contemporary for that time Now their 4th album is out called 'The Grid' and the Swedish boys are yet again ready to head out on the road and blast again... get prepared!!!

    :::TRANAN (Solstice, SWEDEN):::
    Music has always been a great passion in Jonas life and as a young boy he played the piano. In his teens the music interest went from hard rock to punk and hip hop, but he never really found what he was looking for. In 1993, Jonas Pettersson met Dennis Tapper and together they discovered the psy-trance scene. (Dennis is the one responsible for Jonas nickname, that later became the name of his solo project, Tranan. Tranan means the crane, a skinny bird with very tall legs that has a somewhat resemblance to Jonas appearance) Jonas got hooked instantly and a couple of years later he and Dennis started the Hux Flux project. The first Hux Flux album Cryptic Crunch was released in 1997 and was followed by many gigs around the world on the side of a fulltime day job. In 1998 Jonas left Hux Flux and started Logic bomb with Johan Krafft, and later Jonaz Bergvall. He was also working on his solo project Tranan on the side and had his first release, the single Moody, on Flow Records in 1999. In 2000 Jonas quit his day job and put all his attention into the Logic Bomb project. In 2003, Jonas decided to cut down on touring and focus on music production, especially on his solo project Tranan. In September of 2005 his first album Restarter was released on Solstice Music.

    :::META (AT Records):::
    “Meta” is the solo psy-trance project of Aeon La France, a veteran of the California trance community for over a decade. Starting as a DJ in the SF scene in 1999, he began playing for Thump Radio and countless underground parties while also hosting his weekly psy-trance radio show “Highway 604" on KZSC Santa Cruz from 2001-2006. Gradually building a studio and transitioning to production, he released several tracks on V/A compilations and then his debut album “Ekstasis” in 2007. Ongoing collaboration projects include “The 1134" with Etienne Grunenwald, focusing on a twilight oriented sound, and “Boomslang” with Thomas Taylor (Chiral), featuring a more morning-oriented sound inspired by Southern California outdoor parties. Since relocating to Southern California he has continued to play extensively at festivals and clubs across the US, Canada and Mexico, however this will be his first live set in San Francisco in many years, and a welcome return to his original psytrance stomping grounds!

    ::: LOKE (Phar Psyde Records - UK) :::
    After 20 years of living in London, Paul Arnold has returned to his homelands of California. Whilst in London Paul set up and ran Phar Psyde Records, home to some of the most innovative names in the scene such as Flip Flop, Rastaliens, O.O.O.D, Psymmetrix, Konflux and many more. During this time Paul played extensively through out the UK and Europe from club events to major festivals, sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in the psy-trance scene.
    More recently Paul has been concentrating on his music production with two new projects. Smart Bomb – a techno/electro hybrid and new Breaks project - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. A once prolific performer and DJ on the London circuit, Paul doesn’t play out as much these days – but when he does – it always goes over with a bang!

    ::::TOBAL (PULSE/g.o.a.PLAY, SF)::::
    Chris has been part of the San Francisco psytrance community for a decade now and quite possibly no other DJ of his caliber has flown as under the radar as much as he has, but all of that is about to change. As an integral part of founding the Pulse collective with his former g.o.a.Play crew mate Psynthetic and Boston's own Infinite Sun in 2010. Chris is now armed with a new found passion for producing the best psytrance events in SF and that passion for quality has carried over into his dance floor rocking DJ sets over the past year.

    ::::SMOKOVICH (Gardenhouse Music/Crushington State, SF)::::
    Blending elements from both the organic world and that of the digital realm, Smokovich creates origional sounds described as audio crystalline soundscapes. With roots in hip hop, drum and bass, deep house and breaks, he builds an eclectic fusion of harmonies to encourage ethereal visions and promote a sense of cheerful bliss. Smokovich takes his listeners on expansive journeys inspired by the knowledge and wisdom of ancient cultures and the ways that they positively shaped humanity. Incorporating these philosophies and understandings into the present, he also focuses on what is to come.
    Through this unique form of musical expression, he hopes to empower and motivate positivity, unity and grace among all. His belief that the language of music has no borders makes this a perfect medium to embody this concept.
