Thread: Which is better: Windows or MacOS?

  1. #501
I have a few Acer's issued by my job with a similar kickstand design that seems less than optimal for dj use on a stand.

I haven't done that at all. There are merits to both systems depending exactly what you want, but saying mac is better than pc for production or DJing is dumb.

It's not that there isn't competition, because there is, its about marketing and those fashion conscious mongs in the music industry that think you need a mac to be taken seriously.

Anyway, you say this, I've played most of the big clubs in London, played out of the country and while there are plenty of macs, there are also plenty of PCs. A lot of people realise you don't need a mac for DJing.

    ^^^This exactly.

My current Inspiron 14R (my 3rd Dell Inspiron) runs Traktor Scratch Pro, Acid Pro 7, Wavelab 6 and a few other production soft wares without any problems. I've always been a Dell user since 2005 and all of them have worked well for my needs. DJing, internet, photoshop, a few other games, RC flight simulator, etc. I knew from the start that I didn't have the need for a Mac. From 2002 - 2004, I used an IBM desktop (for Final Scratch, Acid Pro 3, Wavelab 3 and a dozen of games) which also worked well.

You're still wrong though... I myself am a 'PRO DJ' and if I was to spend $1500, £965 on a laptop... it would not be a MAC. The most I've ever paid was £800 5/6 years ago on a HP. Even if the Mac was better priced to performance, I wouldn't do it. I thought about it for a short while when buying the HP, but NO! Now with Windows improvements and Mac unimprovements (thanks to chasing design), I would be even less likely. Back then the OS was superior in comparison but once factoring in, I'm not used to it, I'd have to change everything and the huge price Jump in similar spec, it's simply not worth it to make the change, I didn't and I'm glad.

The fact that I'm saying this proves you wrong, even if my beliefs are wrong.

My current full size i5 2.6 turbo boost to 3.2 8gb of ram 750HD was a mega buy at £400. it was very hard to find the laptop that had the better i5 in, most had the better on battery life, lower power consumption (features unimportant to us plugged in boys) but much slower and almost double the price, thanks to touch screens. It's all very clever how the shops display laptops. It only came with 4gb but I had 1 spare. It's had 2 drinks over it and it still works, 1 keyboard replaced. We've since had a huge visor added to the DJ booth.

It's only weakness is it doesn't have the super high resolution screen but it looks great anyway. It's performance and reliability I need and at a price that won't break the bank, especially if it gets destroyed whist at war. My last 2 laptops have died that way. 1 was a bottle of champaign exploding, the other was a nasty fight.

Wrong again as your statement "Even if the Mac was better priced to performance, I wouldn't do it." proves and therefore excludes you from any further debate or discussion because you are admitting to your irrational bias and sticking with it no matter what. So there's no point discussing the removal of your blinders because You've stated in plain English (this time) that your position is no longer debatable therefore I will follow you prior advise.

That's strange, I dont recall anyone ever saying that you did need a mac to dj....hmmm. So Nicadraus, being that you've cosigned Adzm00's statement would you two kindly team up, locate, quote and post the individual stating that "you DO need a mac for DJing" ?

I'd personally be very interested in talking to the alleged person who stated "you DO need a mac for DJing" so I can educate him on how a lot of people have realized you can dj on a $100 windows tablet just fine.......

And I admit this is a silly argument so let's not waste too much time on it , I'd much rather entertain myself with more technical issues people can learn something from.

No he isn't. He said better priced to performance not competitively priced to competitor machines. So it might be a few hundred quid less but still a few hundred quid more than a PC version for example.
