Thread: Technics 1200/1210 alternatives

    Technics 1200/1210 alternatives

So, whats a good alternative to 1200s/1210s? My barber is ditching his controller for turntables, but he doesn't want to spend $400-600 a piece. I've witness countless arguments/debates on Stantons, but are they really that good?

Not trying to turn this into a Technics VS the world thread. Just trying to help out the dude that contributes to me not looking like I'm going bald. LOL!

Rep and thanks to those that help me out.

I can't speak for the Stantons, but I have been using Numark TTX for a while and I love them.

Here is a decent thread on non-Technics turntables.

I'm just in the process of buying some second hand str8 150. For the reviews they get and ost compared to other well known brands (technic) then for me it was a no brainer.

The love of technics will always be there as they were the driving force behind TT since year dot! But the cost of a good set of technics is just crazy. Still as long as vinyl lives on and is still been used then happy dayzzzzz

What ever you purchase just enjoy

I want to put another good word in for the TTX. I bought mine from a buddy. He used them for seven years when he sold them to me, and I have been using them for the past year without any issues. That is all.

Super OEM, or failing that Stanton 150s. I never liked the feel of TTXs.

Again, the only super OEM you are going to find in the States (aside from the Stanton) is the Audio Technica AT-LP1240 or the DJ-Tech SL1300mk6. I have also heard very good things about the Audio Technica AT-LP120. If I were in the market to buy new turntables, I would snag a pair of those.

The only downsides (opinions) that I've read on these AT TTs, is that the build quality and motor are not in the same league as the 1200s. The only point that causes me actual concern is that due to build quality, the AT TT doesn't dampen vibration as the 1200 so the risk for needle jump is higher.

Other than that $500 for a new pair of AT TTs cannot and should not be ignored.
