Time Coded/DVS Setups with an iPad/iPod or iPhone

Hello fellow DJs.

I've been wanting to come up with a timecoded/DVS system for an iPod/iPad/iPhone for quite some time now. The concept isn't new. Timecoded setups have been around for quite a long time and are fairly simple in concept. I've personally configured DVS systems to work with laptops and PC's. A typical setup may contain:

2x CD Decks connected to Maya 4x4 Sound Card Inputs
Maya 4x4 Sound Card Outputs connected to Mixer Inputs
Timecode CDs
Virtual DJ Software

This inexpensive Serato alternative allows you to manipulate/scratch/cue tracks on a computer in real-time using existing physical decks. This gives you the opportunity to keep your entire music library centralized; negating the need for a CD wallet or vinyl crate. The only problem is the added weight and bulk of a laptop/computer.

What if us DJ's could arrive at a venue with just an iPod and USB sound card. No more CD's and no more crates of vinyl. Imagine simply plugging in an iPod between the decks and mixer and making the crowd go wild without compromising the feel and credibility of CDJ1000's under your finger tips. The closest solution that I found for something like this is something called "DJ PLAYER" - available for download NOW in the Apple App Store. The folks that developed this software seem to have come up with a timecode solution but have been very secretive about it. They don't tell you what hardware you need to buy, how to connect things up or anything for that matter. Jerks. See video below:

Anyway. Fact of the matter is, I want to do something like this too. I also don't want it 5 years, 5 months or 5 days from now. I know what I want, and I want it now.

Has anyone ever successfully used an iOS device in a DVS/Timecoded environment? From what I understand, you need some sort of Camera Connection kit from Apple and a USB Soundcard with both inputs and outputs. Then you need this DJ PLAYER software to top off the setup.

If no one has tried this and/or if this setup is still a fantasy of the future, I'm willing to develop something that will work.

As far as I know it hasn’t been properly done yet however I believe this is the next logical step in DJing as it is somewhere between using just a usb in the latest generation of CDJs and using a full on laptop set up.

I have never wanted an iPad and never used DVS but when this is made possible (and I believe that’s just a matter of time) I will be first in line.
