Not really, still strictly 3am most of the time. Some places occasionally get granted a late licence (Pressure at The Arches has managed to open til 5am a few times recently, and Sub Club and La Cheetah are on til 4 once in a while) but generally it's 3. Pretty ridiculous in a city with such a good dance music scene but that's how it is... tbh it does have some good sides, sometimes I like being able to get up before 12pm the next day or not spend money on another 3 hours worth of drink/whatever else

WTF, why can't you just get late licences.

In London there are LOADS of late opening places, some might open Saturday morning and close Sunday evening/early Monday morning.

In Berlin there are places that open Thursday and shut Monday.

Same as when I lived in Sheff, plenty of places with licence until 6am.

@Disparate - Thanks for clearing it up. Hence the word 'think' i wasn't sure.. But as you said for a city that has a good club scene you would think it that it would be open later.. But does it not have quite a few after parties/warehouse etc?

It's cuz North America is a society built by prudes! haha in the words of Eurotrip. But no, really. In my province of Ontario, you can't even buy alcohol at supermarkets or convenience stores. You can only purchase alcohol from the province at liquore control board of Ontario stores. And like 20 years ago it was illegal to dirnk on a sunday! haha

The local Drum'n'Bass nights here in Denver are something like:

    Slot 1 9-10pm
    Slot 2 10-11pm
    Headliner 11-1am
    Slot 3 1-2am

Sometimes can vary by a half hour depending on whether the headliner was booked for 1.5 or 2 hours. Bars always close at 2am here.

But I was recently afforded the opportunity to play in Madrid, Spain, where the 'opening' slot was 12 midnight -2 am. Then, 2am-4am, then 4am-6am. Three dj's per night.

3 DJs per night with those very short time slots? If I were the club/bar owner, I would just get 2 DJs a night and give them at least 2-2.5 hours of sets each. Good for both the owner and the DJs because playing an hour or even an hour & a half set isn't just right.

Sounds about right, I tend not to go out until after midnight anyway.

Thats the difference between US/Europe I think. Everywhere I've played in the states (California, Arizona, Colorado) generally go by 1 hour slots -- for non-headliners. Everything I've seen 'across the pond' are 2 hour slots, whether you're a headliner or not.

But also -- the local nights here in Denver are put on by the local dnb crew, Recon -- in collaboration with the venue operators. They've got the facilities, Recon's got the talent and promo channels to get people in the door. Recon itself is a collab of a bunch of people, many of whom dj, so the problem is getting everyone some deck time. One hour slots are one of the easiest ways to do that.

Yeah, usually, at least 1.5 hours is given.
