So what's next in my career?

So what's the next step.. I haven't had parties in a while(since august), I come out with a few mixes here and there, and mostly everyone in my school knows I dj.. I got turned down to dj at my school events because there's another guy doing it but next year I'll be replacing him. Nobody wants a dj at their party because they're afraid of noise complaints. So what's next? I practice all the time but I haven't been motivated lately, I feel like there's not a goal or anything, I don't get much play on my mixes. So what's next?

Stop being depressed, go to the gym more often, and start DJing at college parties and clubs.

I'm surprised you say people don't want DJs at their parties. A DJ is a very important part of a successful party.

You're in the same boat as me man. Actually, you may have it a whole lot better. I've only had one gig so far, and that one really didn't go off so well.....

Anyways, what I've been doing to motivate myself is to set skill objectives. I mean, it's nice to have a gig every once in a while so you can showcase your skills, but maybe instead of setting a gig goal (aka homecoming and all that jazz), set for yourself skill goals. Heck, maybe even get into some producing. Try a new genre, try DJing with your feet. The sky is the limit, just use some imagination for some small goals you can obtain.

This is all just my opinion. Feel free to give or take any parts of this. Just remember: If you aren't having fun with it at this age, maybe break away from it any try something else. Before this, I was a Windows Phone 7/computer game programmer (I still program a bit, but not a whole lot). Since it started to seem like it wasn't as fun anymore, I decided to break away and try DJing. And I've found DJing to be plenty of fun. My next challenge to try: Producing.

Stop going to the gym, and DJ more often! There's your problem - you're always at the gym!

Make some more mixes, and listen to more mixes from good djs. Get inspired, and continue creating.

    Your 16?

    .... Umm.. Easy solution.

MASTURBATE! or even better, GO AND GET LAID!

Dude trust me, when I was your age I devoted my life to the dark side and everything else came second. (hehehe 'came') anyway's. Man you're young. Be realistic. You have a shit load of competition out there, more than ever, AND you have PRESSURE to be a superstar. PRESSURE to be at the gym 5 days a week. When it was me dude, fuck that. Who hadf time for the gym? (Though I sposed we lifted record crates and shit?)

Try enjoying what you do FIRST before you start saying shit like "Where's my career gonna go next?" because, it might go no where, especially if you don't love it and truth is, at 16, today, it's probably a fad for you. Also, the reality is you MAY NOT end up being the next Guetta and so if this is the CAREER your planning to base your life on, you gotta start at the bottom and start taking on the most shit ass ugly gigs you can now whilst you have the chance so you can learn stuff.

You're only `16, lay off the wishful career thinking and make some mixes that are worth a listen or two. Stick to that for a few years and things will come your way. People want DJs, as a matter of fact they want experienced DJs.

EXACTLY .. The world is crying out for them. Trust me dude, kids your age don't know how good it all COULD BE, if only you'd go out and do the hard yards like we all had to. Because you all live in a popularity contest of a social life and are in a hurry to 'make it' you neglect the basics and fundementals. The result is, you (Being general) all end up being shit Djs, at shit parties, and the kids, because they don't know any better think it's a "Raging Good Old Time"... Even when they grow up! They're like "Oh we're so hardcore we party so hard." When really, they have no idea how good it could be because they just don't know because they've never have a PROPER Dj do a PROPER job for them or a PROPER venue do things PROPER for them. A lot will never experience an illegal party or things like that.

Hone your craft dude. Go out and find inspiration. You have the internet. The world is your oyster. Find new styles, watch you tube videos, go to clubs and parties, talk to people, just, be a 16 year old. Fuck being a DJ as a business, EVER! It's the shittest industry you can get into because when it boils down to it you're trying to make profits from generating a feeling in people that money simply can not bye and that's why the best Djs you will ever hear may not be the super famous ones, but the more humble locals who have accepted their place in it all.

When I was 16 the dj was the least worry about parties. For us it was about which off licenses sold to underage kids and who had the number of a dealer.

Working out? Our work outs were having sex and running away from rude boys trying to mug us.

Enjoy your teen years dude cos they only come round once.
