Absolutely brilliant - saying it would be better than the DJmag was a bold claim and so far the list is looking pretty awful. Calvin Harris topping the list on a forum of DJ's? What the hell is wrong with you lot? I think you need to do some depper digging guys.....

    Todd Terje
    Trevino
    Andres
    Daphni
    Blawan

    This.

Some unsorted recent (last 2 years or so) favs

    Kassem Mosse
    Levon Vincent
    Vatican Shadow
    Deepchord/Echospace
    DJ Qu
    Holy Other
    Flying Lotus
    John Swing (Appointment/Vinalog)
most people doing stuff on L.I.E.S.

And then there would be the all-time favourites, lots of old house, techno, reggae/dub and hip hop guys, that's enough for now though...

    2. Disclosure - One of the most exciting production duos in electronic music right now. A unique sound that is becoming very influential. Their remix of Jessie Ware has been one of the biggest cross-over records of the past year, and their original productions are absolutely sublime. Extremely talented.
Totally with you on these two, but my last three would be...

    3. French Fries - C'mon. "Yo Vogue," "What To Do 2011," and "Champagne" all in the same year? You can't beat that. Now he's dropping remixes for Skrillex and the OWSLA posse, and his newest EP, Space Alarm, is on deck.

    4. Blawan - "What To Do With What You Have" came out little more than a year ago, and Blawan's still killin' it. No one quite matches his dark, heavy sound. "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?" is one of the scariest Techno bangers I've ever heard, and the Long Distance Open Water Worker EP was incredibly solid all-around.

    5. Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team - Teki Latex and DJ Orgasmic's Thermal Team had -- until recently -- been relatively low key. Mostly their attention seemed to be devoted to playing raucous parties and running their Sound Pellegrino label, though they'd find the time roll out a couple of wacky remixes occasionally. But in the past year and a half, they've definitely flowered into their own. Their Strange Touch/Ice Palace and Activate/I Be EPs are must-listen bangers that are as comical and forward-thinking as they are just plain weird.

Honorable mentions this year: L-Vis 1990, Brenmar, Nguzunguzu, DJ Sliink

this. It's just amusing to talk about DJmag being a shit poll and then picking artists that are equally as commercial/shit, artists like Calvin Harris/Guetta etc probably have minimal input on the tracks "they" produce anyway. Hell half of them can't even be arsed to ACTUALLY DJ when they are playing an event.

Anyway, I will note down a few names

    Alan Fitzpatrick
Marco Bailey - way better producer than DJ, does play great tracks though
Uto Karem - started making some good stuff again
    Dosem!!
Christian Smith - Awesome, love most of his more techno tracks, his label Tronic is full of great artists
KiNK - some wicked tracks and a particularly epic remix of Marc Romboy's Muzik ft Blake Baxter
10dens - if you haven't heard of these guys give them a listen. some very nice more chilled stuff from them
Laurent Garnier (as L.B.S) - new timeless EP was amazing

Also I want to mention Chemical Brothers for Don't think - having been to a screening of it at somerset house it is epic, and although most of the tracks were released before 2012, there are a couple of tracks in there unreleased and new that are effing epic.

should have just named this thread "if you don't list underground techno producers you clearly have no musical taste." What a joke...

No true (see me naming one of electronic music biggest and most famous acts) but if you name Guetta, Calvin Harris and the like, what do you expect.

Most of us dislike the djmag top 100 because it is just commercial cheese, to naysay it and then throw up a list of people just as bad is pretty laughable.

I don't really stand by the cheese chart when I can, but I do really think Eric Prydz is a legitimate choice with his latest album/compilation.

dude, it's our opinion. And to call my musical tastes hilariously bad is downright offensive and disrespectful. To rope eric prydz and diplo as "pop fodder" and "recycled big room house" shows you don't know as much as you think you do.

btw, i've been checking out most of the producers you guys have mentioned. been liking a lot of what i hear!

The main argument people always use to dislike the DJMag 100 is because the majority aren't actually good DJs, which is true, so they would rather it be the top 100 producers. Obviously, underground is labeled as such for a reason, because it's not mainstream which is who everyone is going to vote for no matter how much some people will dislike that.

I just think it's absolutely ridiculous for some people to say that the others in here who aren't listing names that they like have no musical taste. It's just straight up ignorance. Now, I listen to everything and enjoy it all (for the most part), regardless of what it's considered to be by "music critics." I'll go to a place one night that plays deep/tech house type stuff all night long and have a great time, and then go to place that plays super commercial stuff the next night and have an equally great time. Some people are just so fucking close minded that it's either their way or no way.

My main point is to 1) get over yourself, and 2) saying others have inferior or no taste in music is absurd. I'm really into indie dance and nu disco currently, so a lot of the guys I would say are my favorite produce those genres. It doesn't mean I don't love other genres, and have a lot of respect for the people who produce it. The question here is for YOUR top 5 of the past year, and people on here make it all about themselves and what they think that everyone else should be putting.
