    Who Still Goes Flyering?

Looking out the window this morning, it's another day for flyering. Gonna check in all the funky shops, go up to the university library, and generally check the poster/flyer situation around town. got til Friday to put out the last of the 5000

As a DJ I never go flyering. That would be the job of the promoter. When I've done my own nights I have been flyering and put up posters, but it's been like 15 years ago.

^^ we have a couple of girls at the club who flyer all the nights, but I still flyer for my own night.

I'm doing it all through this week, and it sucks. Its fucking wet and cold here and I do not like to stand outside clubs at 4am.

On the other hand, it really works. I get to talk to people directly and they seem to like the fact that I'm out there freezing my nuts off, waiting for them to exit the club so that I can offer them a chance to go to another wicked party later in the week/month; I only get good responses from the people I give flyers to, people seem really interested in what I'm offering, keen to know more.

I've used social media to advertise nights and it doesn't seem to work all that well. The people that get involved are generally already in my network, or one step removed. Using flyers I get to talk to people directly who would otherwise never see the on-line marketing.

Using both approaches in conjunction with one another, i.e. "here's a flyer blah blah blah please also check our facebook page" etc., far more people (and more importantly potentially their networks) get to hear of my night than through only using the one medium alone.

When i was running my club night, i did some flyering but the other 3 residents did most of it due to them being students and i was working full time, so i took care of the online aspect of things.

But yeah, it's cold, wet, windy in true Scottish form. But on the other hand it definitely worked. So did selling tickets at the same time. for every 100 flyers we put out we used to sell about 50 tickets, so was quite good.

Definitely a great way to communicate with your audience.

If flyers are made for the show I'm playing at, yeah I'll hit up a few parties to flyer up some cars. I understand that its the promoter's job to do that, but with as many events going on in my area, I want to make sure everyone knows where to catch me next.

that's the way I feel - plus, standing outside clubs early morning, you get chatting to other local DJ's & peeps involved in other clubnights.
Over the years, I've got to know everyone who runs the cool shops, cafes, bars, ect, just by popping in with some flyers - and the more I 'pop in', the more duty-bound they feel to turn up now & again, or at least recommend us to friends going out

I have a pal who does another night at the club, and he does it all online, to great effect; however, his job is computer-based, and he's all over the internet all day.
