Dude there are just so many forms of ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC that it's almost laughable. I mean, listen to how you describe yourself? Jungle/Drum and bass/Drunkfuck music dj. That's way too specific. EDM is a usable term.

The computer tried to commit suicide to get away from the shite music those asshats were playing on it![]()

Flosstradums FUCKED UP.
At that point I would have thrown my middle finger in the air, crowd surfed, and sprayed booze all over the crowd. Got on the mic and yelled shit like "fuck the police"
I KNOW where it is, but what I'm trying to say is when someone says "house music" to me, I think of that. What you are talking about. However I know a lot of younger people, when you say "House music" to them it's more of the mainstream Swedish House Mafia stuff. I wouldn't call Swedish House Mafia House music. I wouldn't say their music is BAD, I wouldn't say I don't like it, I just wouldn't call it House because it doesn't sound like House music as I knew it.
Adzmoo: I think Richie Hawtins Technical abilities are whats holding him back at the momment. That's why it pisses me off when everyone says "You don't get it". Because, Traktor comes with default loops and stuff. If you use a controller, you can acheive A LOT using those loops and ONLY those loops. (Not saying that's all he uses.) but the point I'm trying to make is, yes he's doing some stuff with lots of machines etc, but, the way he is doing it, things like timing, and, levels of the effects, just fine tuning kind of stuff isn't there and it makes it sound like some kid has grabbed Traktor or some similar program, has a loop or a song loaded and is just going it at, clicking things, twisting knobs, seeing what happens etc.
It's certainly not "house music" as defined by people who are able to associate specific genre names to different sounds and production elements used, which the majority of people aren't, and that is something DJs forget to realize. Most people can't even tell the different between dubstep and and electro house. But really, SHM could still be called house music as a blanket term considering that it is a subgenre of house. People new on the scene will identify anything as house music that is electronic, four on the floor, and uptempo (124-132 give or take). It is what it is, and I don't think it's technically wrong to say.
Just like with rock music, there are many subgenres which can all be labeled as rock. And rock doesn't sound the same now as it used to in the 70s or 80s, but still calling it rock isn't incorrect. Genres evolve and subgenres form, but the general genre names still stay the same.
