Thread: Can I get by with just an iPad?

  1. #11
I have dj'ed a short wedding, (4 hours) on my iPad using djay. It worked, but I wouldn't to do anything more then that time frame. Love it for shorter stuff, and actually like the automix better then vdj's for background music. Fun for school dances and kids birthday parties.

You could get a way with it off you have a controller or proper cueing setup I guess.

Might as well just use an MP3 player and boombox. No serious DJ uses just an Ipad, that's an insult to the art form.

The same thing was said when cassettes replaced vinyl, when CD replaced cassette, mp3/laptop replaced CD. Or when digital photography replaced film. And so on and so on. It's called evolution.

I say go for it. As long as it's not holding you back in terms of your creativity, reliability, or professionalism. The iPad has found its way into many different industries; why should the DJ industry be any different? I could DJ a gig using just my iPhone running Djay. Would I? Probably not, as the screen is too small. Djay on the iPad is great. I still prefer tactile controls and stereo sound, so I choose to use a controller.
