    The short answer is yes.

The long answer is: It all depends how much mixing (and more) you plan on doing. One could conceivably DJ a wedding using Djay or a similar app. It's what I use on my Mac. Though I find it much easier to use with a MacBook + Vestax Spin, I could do a wedding in a pinch using an iPad.

I think the answer to this questions plays on what you are trying to accomplish using the iPad.

I myself have used my iPad at gigs, but only as a secondary source. I use the numark iPlay controller for the iPad just because I like a more solid feel for controlling the music rather than a touch screen. The only down fall to this is that I have no way of charging the iPad with the controller plugged in. So for that reason I personally wouldn't rely strictly on my iPad.

Now this is not to say you can't pull it off, because it can be done using Djay, as previously mentioned, or the iPad version of Mixmiester. I think you'll find by the end of the night you eyes and fingers will be straining trying to control everything off of such a small touch screen.

Kudos to you if you can pull it off without any issues. If you decide to do it, please let us know how it works out.

No. For $500, you could buy a nice controller that would suit you better. An iPad with a DJ app is a nice BACKUP to have, just in case something goes wrong with your primary equipment, however, it is no substitute for a professional setup.

I have an iPad with djay as a backup. I make a playlist with all the important stuff (intro song, cake cutting song, formal dance songs, bride requests, etc.) on it. That way if for some reason VDJ and my Denon MC-6000 decides to not work I have a backup. I don't think I could use it as my primary music source.
