How long have you been a DJ? (Read post #1)

For the purposes of this poll, you started DJing when you either got some DJ gear and started trying to learn the craft, or when you performed your first gig/set/show assuming you didn't own any gear before first performing (rare, but it happens). Any DJs that fit the common definition of DJ can vote (club DJ, wedding DJ, bedroom DJ, radio DJ for example).

Just because you owned gear capable of being used for DJing doesn't necessarily make you a DJ either, so for example, I had a turntable and some records when I was about 7 or 8, but that doesn't mean that I was a DJ or attempting to become one at that age.

I put up to 10 years, as I've been a club DJ for 10 years this year - I played for my mates in bars ect before that, but I consider myself a DJ from when I got in the club.

In 1993 I almost had enough money saved for these decks someone at the shop was selling (I worked in a record shop), then a week before I was to pay him, I was robbed and he had to sell them to someone else. It wasn't until 1998 I got some shit geminis given to me for free that I started thinking about DJ'ing again. At the time I was in a D&B collective as a vocalist & wanted to calm down a bit so DJ'ing seemed like a most sensible option again.

I'm about, 12 years in. Played my first club gig at 16. Had to have my parents sign a peice of paper saying I was in there for performance purposes and shit. And yeah. Did birthdays etc leading up to that.
