Yep. Black Box/Mixmaster et al. Chart stuff we tend to look fondly back on now, but scoffed at back in the day

Also, we've had house producers doing jingles for TV programmes since the early nineties; the noughties were all EDM, D&B and grime (weirdly clean-sounding for public consumption) now we're hearing diluted dubstep.

dubstep is dead round here, 12 months ago you would have struggled to find a venue not playing it in the midlands, it was huge, but you have to look for a specialist monthly night these days, lasted 1 year. it will not disappear for a long time, but its popularity as a mainstream/major scene is very much a "fad"

As all the UK lads have said it's been pretty big here since the 80's and probably will continue to do so. As Marc said Dubstep didn't last long and now we have DnB hitting my local scene that has came in recently and is dissapearing just as quick really. You guys over the other side of the pond will most likely be a totally different story though.

it could be argued that popularity in the mainstream is all a fad - pop music takes all it's cues from sub-cultures that are already there, whether they're 'current' or not.

The pendulum always swings back and forth between dance music and rock. We're obviously on the dance side this time so pretty soon a new "rock band sound" will become popular. IIRC, the swing is about every 7 years or so.

Dubstep yeah, and Moombahton gets some play, but even though trap rocks the house and has some massive names, it's definitely not something that's actually blown up yet. It's a big wave and it's still building up.

I see it lasting for quite some time. I will say that lately, more and more kids are getting into the good Dubstep in my area lately. A good friend of mine had Goth Trad here w/ the Legendary Joe Nice and that went off.

Honestly, I don't care really. The music that I like is popular to me and that is all that matters.

You're forgetting about the "Hip-Hop / R&B" (or whatever you wanna call it) wave that dominated radios and clubs for maybe 10 years before EDM blew up...

^^thats a good guess... I think stuff like Air that's more downtempo will come back as a counter to brostep.

I think it will die down in about 10 years and then return to the people who actually like it but there will always be room for dance music in the clubs cuz anyone can enjoy it
