I haven't seen anyone answer this question before. I'm currently (as some of you already know) the main string DJ for a dance party. This is one of those parties where everyone goes crazy. I know that the DJ will be mixing the tunes, but what should he do if he wants to build up the crowd? Should he slowly raise his hands like a conductor and crash them down on the breakdown? Maybe he could start dancing? I just want to hear everyone's thoughts. Feel free to post pictures/videos of examples.

What ever you do behind the decks should not be planned. You just do it, you feel the music, it just happens....you dont follow tiesto and try to mimic him or else you will come off as william hung. But dont stop yourself from feeling what you are playing, but dont make yourself do it either.

I play keyboards while I DJ... sooo... that keeps me busy. Otherwise I just stand still with my cane in hand and pick a random dancer and stare at them creepily (think Ron Swanson) until they notice. If she's cute, I wink when she notices.
