I was ready to jump all over Dantron for being ignorant, until I read Atomisk comments....and I think the whole controller thing has two opposite ends of the spectrum.
One end is someone like Sultan - who is opening for and playing alongside the best DJs in the world - and for who, using controllers is a way to take a performance already perfected on turntables and CDJs - to a higher level. This is the camp I am in, where I use an S4 alongside an F1, X1 and Midi Fighter....all the while playing 3 or 4 tracks and 64 potential loops. This kind of performance would not be possible without DVS and controllers.
On the other end of the spectrum are newbies who use controllers as a cheap way to call themselves "DJ's" - who have no understanding of the basics of DJing without their sync button and dont know how to mix music, program music or do much but play a pre-planned 20 song set. If their controller fails or the crowd isnt into what they planned at home, they are FUCKED as they dont even know how to cue up a record or use a CDJ.
I can see how people like Dantron and Atomisk - who DJ in college towns or with younger people have instituted a policy where they refuse to book these kind of jokers from group #2...and I agree that if you are in group #2, you do have very little talent.
But I think you have to be careful when painting with broad strokes...as clearly, using controllers has nothing to do with talent...in fact, the more and more of the most talented DJs in the world are converting to controllers everyday. Clearly Dubfire, Hawtin, Luciano, Chris Liebing and Christian Smith arent "talentless" because they embrace new technology.
Do you live where I live? Do you know my scene? I highly doubt it, so I believe that you're the one being "ignorant".I was ready to jump all over Dantron for being ignorant
I don't DJ in a college town. All of the DJs in our area that use controllers are shitty VirtualDJ controller DJs who can't beatmatch or phrase properly to save their lives. Blackest would probably attest to that.I can see how people like Dantron and Atomisk - who DJ in college towns or with younger people have instituted a policy where they refuse to book these kind of jokers from group #2...and I agree that if you are in group #2, you do have very little talent.
Sure there are exceptions to that rule, some people who do live ableton production that are properly talented, but I'd rather not even bother with it.

Not a whole lot in Harrisburg. Baltimore and D.C. more. Lancaster PA has a growing scene, however.
Your sarcasm aside, our area is a lot different than some other places. We have no scene for Techno, Deep House, Trance, etc. Our scene is largely Electro, Dubstep and Drum & Bass. These aren't people that are omgliveremixingwithableton. They hit a sync button and Jesus Pose for 5 minutes.
