Clearly I do take DJing more seriously than you do. You cant be arsed to show up early enough to hear what is going on at the event....and use the excuse that you are tired or "dont feel like it" for justifying showing up late - playing and leaving?
That is treating DJing like a job - instead of a passion...but good luck with that, it seems to be working well for you.
Who said I play then leave? Whenever I get there I stay until the end unless I have work in the morning. Also, just because I said I do this sometimes doesn't mean I regularly do that. I'm typically one of the first people at a place and stay until close. My point is that it's not being a "prima donna" if you show up around 30 minutes before your set.
It is, so thank you!it seems to be working well for you.

You keep back peddling and adding more to your story.
If you said from the beginning, I do lots to support the local scene - and unless I have to work in the AM or have another commitment - I show up early and hang out to hear others....I wouldnt have even commented.
But instead people were telling a new DJ that it is cool to show up a few minutes before his set...and who cares if you play songs that the guy before you played. That right there is bad advice and I felt the need to set the record straight.
It is true, there is enough music to play not to clash or play the same track, that isn't an excuse to not turn up and support though.
Unless you have another gig or work then you should turn up with ample time. You don't have to be there when the doors open (unless you have a controller/traktor etc to soundcheck), but you should give a decent amount of time, you should actually want to be there.
I agree with Kleen on this (and clearly we do not always agree on everything).

ZOMG I hate it when people do that ish. Right in the middle of my set(yes middle, not at the end of) "Hey can you let this tune play out so that I can hook up my serato/traktor?" One guy got so mad that he moaned to the promoter about me saying "no you can't interrupt my set to hook up your stuff".
For the love of god, if you have a DVS and you know that there is not going to be a scratch amp hooked up for you, please show up early enough to have your stuff set up.
I throw parties and we allow DVS at our parties but we are a strict "no controller" group. Causes too many headaches, and we prefer people with talent.
