    Following another dj...Thoughts please

    Hi,

But random but thought id ask it anyways...

Usually I warm up for djs so don't have to worry bout what tracks I play as I know no one before me would have played them but what happens when following a few djs?

As I'm playing peak time during a night 3-4am club is open 12-6 do I worry if a dj before has already played some of the tracks I plan to play or just think eff it..and smash it up?

    Thoughts please guys!

If the venue is open from 6 - 12 you should be there at 5:30. You should stick around and listen to what the other Dj's play so you don't play what they play and you should have a contingency plan. For example, if they play all chart smashers early you should find shit that will hold it's weight at a peak time that will work for your crowd.

I know Dj's who have been playing for decades who still show up half an hour before they play, because they think they have the right to, and then play the same set they played the week before at a different party, and then, even go on to play one or MORE songs played by Dj's before them.

The worst one to happen to me, my headlining Dj came to play after me. He opened with the same song and Intro I'd opened with, played half his set as songs he had been playing in his set for the last decade or longer and then went on to play another 3 or 4 more songs that I had played in my set before him. ... Imagine hearing the same 4 songs twice each in the space of 2 hours.

the club is open 12am-6am (afrerparty)

its 1 hour speed garage , 1 hour garage and so on.. im playing second garage slot at 3-4am so they'll be an hour gap where non of my genre is played and dont particularly wanna hang around for like 2-3 hours waiting to play.

i think what i don't no cant hurt me type thing

Surely there are enough tracks for this to not be an issue.

What exactly is wrong w/ showing up 30mins before you play? Hell there have been times where I've gotten to my gig 5mins before I was due to play. Its not because I feel I have the right to, its because of either time or I just want to get there right before I go on.

People play the same tunes that other people play all the time. MOST of the big time djs play the same big tunes. What really matters is how you mix them.

@ e'n'b, if 3-4am is the prime slot, then play the big tunes. Especially if the guy after you isn't playing what you play.

@blackest... i fully agree with what you say.. not bout thinking your too big for your boots its about dj etiqute aswell not turning up like 3 hours before a set and lurking around the dj booth thats just off putting

Seriously, if I got there 3hrs before my set for "dj etiquette" I would be rinsed by the time I was due to go on. Don't get me wrong, there have been a few times where I've shown up right as doors opened to check out the opening dj that I've never heard of(support your scene), but if my daytime life has me swamped or I want to chill out after my hectic day before I spin somewhere, I'm definitely going to show up close to when I'm due to go on.

That's wrong blackest, you should be there early. Don't be lazy... Unless of course you're Aoki or Afro... Then I'm sure you would be arguing that the openers burned you. Do what you want.

Bahahaha you can't be serious. Please tell me you are trolling.

Why would I argue w/ the openers about what they played? In all the years that I've been playing out, I have never had to worry about someone who played before me, "burning me".

Me being lazy is comedy. Thanks for the laugh.
