If you're going to go the Honda EU route, another potential solution is to buy one or two EU2000is generators instead of single EU3000. You'll pay a little more ($1k each versus $1800 for the single larger unit) but there are advantages to be had. The smaller units can power a small system quite capably, and they only weight 40-50 lbs versus the two-man-lift 140 lbs or so for the big-boy 3000. And you can gang two 2000's together for 4k watts if necessary.

Just a little flexibility for those of us that don't have crews of people to carry stuff around :-)

Good points.. but the EU3000 has wheels and can easily be wheeled around by 1 person...

FYI -- I'd charge $350 to rent a Honda EU-3000 (my estimate is based on 10% of the purchase price plus the cost of hiring a roadie to setup/teardown the unit).

Which is why I always prefer the extension cord route. I only need to provide enough setup time to unroll & roll up the extra cords (about 30 minutes total).

For most ceremonies this would suffice.

All true. However, as a one-man show (and clearly I'm a wuss compared to SockoPro :-) I would much prefer a smaller unit that I can deadlift into the back of an SUV by myself.

For me it's a moot point anyway, as I'm quite happy running ceremonies off of my little $170 Duracell power pack. There's a guy who's selling an Eu3000is here at work for a good price, and I passed on it for the reasons described above. But to each his own.

Agreed. If you don't have a box truck with ramp or lift, or a trailer, and you have to lift all your gear into an suv, it makes more sense for a lighter solution.

What does your buddy at work want for the EU3000is? I'd be interested in buying it.

Regarding extension cords being easier- I still disagree. Have you ever done a ceremony in a field, on a beach, or some other remote location with no power? OR, what if you have to run that 200ft. of extension cord and the only way to get it to the power source is to fly it, or run it though high traffic areas with cable channels- its a mess. The guy with the portable power source is going to have it much easier.

I think the OP suggested he had a choice but yes I agree that portable power is best for remote locations

Nick- pretty sure it's $1700 for the generator w the wheel set and a cover, 15 hrs of total time. About equal to the going rate on Craigslist here in MA- the other advantage of Honda hardware is that it holds it's value well!

    PM me if you're interested.

    @ Pelli

I just don't like my back. I lift it with a fast jerking motion not using my knees...

This is the unit I use.... http://robinamerica.com/pspecs.aspx?pid=34
