Best way to get paid gigs?

Wondering if anyone has any pointers on how to get legitimatly paid gigs in clubs? I'm not a mobile dj, (more a producer of electro/progressive house) therefore looking for gigs that are likely not cut and dry...

make demo cd
make website/facebook/twitter/soundcloud/etc and upload music
spend lots of money in clubs and get to know the staff
make a card
spend lots of time knowing people in the business and making friends


It has a LOT to do with who you know, your social circle is usually pretty vital to start out, especially if you're not a mobile DJ/karaoke DJ/top40 DJ to start.

Clubs like followers, if you build a 'cult' around your DJ set the clubs are *very* interested. Forget about just playing and people start to show up, seldom happens today. Especially as things are so driven by social media marketing.
