Started in the bedroom when I was 13, did that for 2 years moved up to talent shows, then kinda fell out of Djing for a while. In 2009-2010 went to a beat matching class and learned a bit from a local club DJ and when i turned 19 he let me tag along and see how it was done. Soon after that he had me filling in for him during smoke breaks and he let me DJ on days he was sick or just wanted to go out.
Soon after I got my first taste of the club I found out that one of the universities in town had a radio station you could volunteer at and they they would let you have your own radio Show so I started doing Thursday nights playing hip-hop prefecting my hip-hop mixing and just having fun in the studio from 10pm-midnight. I then got a job as a DJ helper with a company that did high school dances learned a lot from that, and most of the DJ's they hired all worked the clubs. then shit took off..
One day my boss of the DJ company called me at 8pm because he needed someone to DJ at a local club, so I said yes. Showed up at 10 to start and turned out I got to open for Mord Fustang. fast forward to Jan 2012 when I moved to Alberta, I seen a poster "So you think you can DJ?" I show up so them what I got and they offered me a residency, since then I've opened for Rachel Sehl, Obie Trice, Swollen Members, and Skratch Bastid.
In this business its all about being in the right place at the right time, until yuo get your foot in the door then its about who you know.
I might not go down in history, but I will go down on your sister
I am a bedroom DJ for 3 reasons.
1. I won't go into this reason here.
2. I'm not as into DJing as I once was (me DJing I mean, I still love listening to mixes from other people).
3. When I was playing gigs I could play music I liked/loved to a crowd that (hopefully) felt the same. These days I mostly listen to prog rock, old soul music, and hip-hop from the late 70s to the early 90s. I'm 42 years of age, so I can't force myself to like music that younger crowds are into. I would rather make a mixtape solely for myself, then put it out there and hope it finds the people that may enjoy it rather than putting on a hip-hop night that I know will be filled with people half my age that are asking for music I detest. I'm open to evolving when it comes to equipment, but I can only play music I like and modern, popular hip-hop/R&B isn't music that I like generally. If I lived in a big city, I'd try and get a night going at a small club/bar, but I live in a pretty small town where mainstream music venues have killed off all the others.
When I returned to DJing this year, after a very long hiatus, the least of my desires was to become active in the local club scene. This is mainly due to the fact that I refuse to play music that I do not enjoy, which will no doubt be an issue in my present location (I miss my hometown located in the Metro Detroit area).
In addition, at 41 years of age and married with a professional career, regularly being at the clubs is not the most appealing way for me to enjoy my nights. I did that more than I thought was possible in my younger years as a DJ and club hopper. I might be open to a club date every now and then, but only if I have full control over the music content during my DJ set.
Therefore, I am happily and proudly a bedroom DJ at this time and in the foreseeable future.
With that said, I have started a monthly mix series, "Subterranean Party Hunters", which I post on my website and various mix hosting sites. Furthermore, I plan to start seeking out live internet radio gigs next year or start a live show on a streaming site, such as Mixlr.
The aforementioned actions and goals keep me actively DJing, and fall more inline with my present interests and daily life responsibilities, from a personal and professional aspect.

Oldies!! lol
My setup is in my living room and doesn't face the wall. One of the centre pieces of my apartment I guess.
I've performed out a few times. Debuts(Filipino girls 18th bday) and join my mentors djing wedding and various events. Was muscle at first lugging crates and bins. Now I have my gear, my library built up, and the knowledge of the djing game. As much as I would love to dj at a club/lounge i know I'm not that amazing. But I don't have the time to put in the leg work to do it more often. I have a career and it pays well with benefits. Djing is more of a hobby because I love music so much and don't mind doing one off parties. I'm sure if I put more time and effort in I could be playing out more. But at 31 there are more important things than trying to get my FB numbers up. But at the same time I'm not going to turn down any convenient opportunities. Djing weddings and various functions pays well for the time and effort put in.
Only occasional things I guess. I get great feedback 90% of the time and then I never hear from them again. I guess I always end up doing "one offs".
Right now I'm on the hunt for the scene, my crowd, and when I find it I'll attack it with everything I've got.
(... or maybe I'm just blind. Who knows)

Last night i would much preferred to play in my bedroom. i played a pub which mainly plays reggae, ragga kind of stuff.. 1st time i played there my mate said come and do a dubstep set and i died a slow painful death. That was holoween last year. So i played again last night played some usher, rihanna which was the kind of stuff being played before i went on. Again died a slow death, some women even came over to kick off with me as i was going off looking for an argument. she was suprise i just went ok.
I only practice in the bedroom but I'm 100% mobile and club with it.
Almost all in the bedroom. I might play out once a year or every second year for a niche night, but there isn't much love around here for actual techno or underground edm here. All everyone wants to hear is top 40 or mainstream electro and well, I couldn't be bothered to play that shite.
I usually find practising at home really boring.
I spin out at clubs/bars tho.
