I see people trying to get votes and stuff for their dj contest mixes so they can open for big names. My question is, where do people usually find out about these contests?

Most of them are local..
Confidence, and hard work is the key to success in anything. DJF Battle Record: 4-3
what part of cali are you from? if you're from so.cal there are a lot of dj battles.. check the regional threads
competitions that use "likes" over "skills" are not worth entering.
especially when the prize is a thinly disguised "this way we wont have to pay for the opening dj's if we make it look like a prize"
^^^ My thoughts exactly
I started a rant thread about exactly that in this section somewhere.
Check this out. It's a DJ that has made it through to the final of the DMC Online comp solely because the top 3 DJs in each round were decided by public votes. He's fucking terrible. This is his routine for the final: -
There's no going back for comps now though IMO. It gaves the people organising them masses of free publicity on Facebook, Twitter and the like and they're not going to turn their backs on that.
holy crap thats awful, i think i could pull off a better routine.
Jesus! That's a DMC finals entry?
I reckon any number of djs on here could do better than that, myself included & I'm pretty upfront about my lack of turntablism ability.
It's just horrible. No flow, unrelated film dialogue thrown in seemingly at random. None of the flair, style or technical ability I would expect from even an early round DMC entry.
I'm sure I saw some decent entries for the online comp. What happened DMCs?
