$3,000 to invest in business. What should I spend it on?! :)

I'm thinking about a new set of speakers. As of now, I have no backup/extra speakers at the moment. Thinking about the Yamaha DXR15's, and a new wireless microphone system. I had also been considering buying an uplighting package, but honestly I don't think uplighting is that popular in this area yet. So..... uplighting or speakers?

Going to buy a new wireless microphone system too.

I would not just buy something because you have the money. Wait until you have a need. What do you use for Subwoofers? The wireless is pretty standard though.

Agreed - what equipment do you have and what type of events/cliente do you market to (or want to market to but don't have the equipment to do so). Here's a thought - what about spending some of that budget on marketing your business? Just my $.02

Well... I really feel I need a back up sound system. I guess for peace of mind. Also, because I'd like to be able to do ceremonies. Currently have JBL Eon 515's and a 518 Sub. Rarely use the sub as I mostly do weddings with 50-125 guests. Many are destination weddings and smaller venues.

I had a tweeter not working after setting up a couple months back. Luckily was there early enough to try see if I could fix it. Opened up the speaker and the wire to the tweeter had come loose... but this really got me thinking about needing a back up system.

I don't really need more lighting unless I start offering uplighting. Currently have 2 Intimidator LED 200, 2 Colorbar Mini's and 2 Swarms.

Also definitely need a new microphone system. I have a Nady UHF system now, but I want something nicer.

Wireless mic system; Keeping in mind i'm a Shure wireless boy so others such as Sennheiser and AT also offer solutions that work; I'd look into getting the SLX system both with a handheld 58 capsule and the belt pack with lavier mic for ceremonies.

Uplighting, If don't properly can be a relatively inexpensive side to lighting and can make a nice addition to the room. I'd be looking into 8-16 LED cans.

Backup System: I'm probably going to cop a lot of hate for this but I do not see the need to take a backup FOH system to events. If you're worried about your equipment not functioning correctly then you need new equipment that is reliable and does its job. I'd look into selling off your Eon system as aesthetically they're ugly as hell and they don't sound much better. The PRX series from JBL, QSC's K and KW range and some of the RCF cabs are very much within your budget and would give you a better sound.

Agreed, but ONLY if you use passive gear. Although the gear you refer to has gotten a strong reputation for reliability, I don't think I'd ever feel fully comfortable using active gear that I couldn't immediately fix if something were to happen. An amp failure for whatever reason, and it's done for the night and you look unprofessional with music only coming out of one side of your setup.

Now if you break passive gear, that's entirely operator error and I'm comfortable with my abilities to not blow speakers. If/when the amp powering it fails, you swap it with the backup and you're good to go in minutes.

Depends what sort of level of active equipment we're talking here. RCF 700 series powered cabs or L'Acoustic 12" powered boxes..

I don't bring a backup FOH system either. I just bring a big enough system that if i blow a speaker i can run one side in mono and still have enough sound.

Drop those eon's and grab some qsc's or rcf's. Just get 3, then you have one in the vechile for a back up just in case. You will look so much more professional. Maybe a facade and a couple uplights to start with.

Wireless mic system is a must.

Put it in the bank and get an IRA.
Pair of Pioneer CDJ-2000 CD Players, Xone:92 Mixer. Pair of RCF-312A Loudspeakers and 1 RCF 4Pro 8003 18" Sub.
