Your way of getting out of town/state gigs?

I am going on 'vacation' in August out of state. I am brainstorming some ways of getting a gig out there, but have zero connections out there.

    Cold-Calling?
    Facebook message bars/clubs/restaurants?
    Stalk Craigslist?

I certainly can entertain, especially with the 'adrenaline' of a completely new place and being surrounded by other tourist, but am no 'head-liner.'

    Suggestions? Ideas?

I've never done it without connections. It requires a hustle. I'd facebook my way to promoters, scenesters, and DJs in that town.

In March I went over to America. First time I'd ever been on a plane or anything. Anyways, I wanted to play over there so spent all this cash on a Traktor set up so I could bring all my music and be set to play even if gear was dodgey etc. (Didn't end up bringing ANY of it mind you!) Anyways, I tried to get gigs before I left by e-mailing people and promoters who were hosting clubs and events at the same time last year. Annual kinda things and believe it or not, (cos I'd been trying for years to play over seas), anyways, first person I emailed said YES!! I was stoked! I was on my way to Djing in America!!!!!

So 2 months before I fly out it turns out the venue had since changed management, and 2 weeks after I found that out, no gig! I was shattered!

So, I don't have any advice to give you because my method clearly took a massive dump on my chest, but good luck and all the best champ!

My advice would be this: Try for places where you have family/friends. Or places you really want to go and see the sights at. That way, you aren't stuck and you have a plan B just in case things don't work out.

    Which 'state' are you visiting?

Maybe a resident dj or potential contact that's reading this will put in a word for you...
