Young electro Dj, thinking about buying my first controller.

I'm only 16 and just starting out mixing for the love of music and nothing else. I've been using Djay for ios to create a couple mixes because I don't have that much experience and I didn't want to drop money on a mixer that I have no clue what I'm doing. I was looking around and found a Traktor F1 controller that comes with a full version of Traktor Pro 2.5 for $250 at Guitar Center. I believe this would be perfect for my first little home set up until I can purchase more later on (Like an s4 if I do decide to purchase this). If you are wondering I do understand the importance of EQing and beatmatching. Have you guys ever used a F1 with Traktor? I'd like to get some opinions on it before I really consider buying it.

How about an X1? You can actually DJ with that, sort of. But honestly, I would recommend a DJ controller instead of an accessory.

I originally planned on getting the F1 first and play around remixing songs while exploring Traktor, and then maybe pick up a S2 or S4 later. I do see what you are saying, but if I was going for a mixer I'd just save up for a S2. What about a X1/F1 combo?

I've had a Numark Mixtrack Pro (I'm also just starting out like you) and although being far from 'ideal', it has definitley done me well over the past few months! You'll struggle to get beatmatching down on the bugger because of the lack of jog wheels (well, I would), I like to get a feel and 'nudge' the record along manually if it is out of time. I do believe there's also no pitch control on the F1, which'll also be a bitch.

Try lookin around at controllers, they are suprisingly cheap when you look around: http://www.decks.co.uk/products/DJ_Controllers

Kepp in mind, on your controller you'll want/need, a crossfader, couple of upfaders, pitch control, jog wheels, EQ control and preferably hot cues, loop control and an effects panel. Keep in mind you'll probably have to buy Traktor seperately, it's not that expensive though, or you can 'aqquire' it by other means if you're really skint - but make sure you buy it when you start gigging!

    Hello Elektric Tornado ,
First I think we need to know What price range can you go too ?

And personally I would recommend you go for the best you can afford, its better to have stuff that you need to learn, than not have it at all and then later find that you need it, and believe me,judging by how keen you seem, it will not be too long before you will get board and want more from your djing,So don't make this common mistake. You will also find that if you decide to upgrade you will loose a fair bit selling for second hand and in some cases the budget gear will devalue so much, it is just going to be a waste in the long run, so be wise here, and maybe even better to wait until you can afford, you have to be practical,I have made these mistakes many times over the last two decades and some, so don't let inpatients cloud your better judgement, you will be sorry.

The F1 will be a great addition to any set-up, but only as an addition, I would also go for something a bit more durable as suppose to the s2 or s4, For the money I think their are far better options out their
So many too choose from, so it can get confusing, but amongst all these their are only a around a couple in each price I would consider worth looking at !, and not many that I would actually consider after loosing all the hype, don't believe the hype and don't always believe what your local dj shop tells you, listen to the guys that have been around the block with the djing that can back it up with great mixes that show skill and technique.
All I can say is do not rush into this decision, at your age chances are if you can not afford say a Numark 4Trak Which I have no doubts will me the best we will see for a very long time and is going to last. then you will more than likely buy the wrong one, do not base your decision on what any one of us say alone, scan the internet hi and low and base your decision on the max price range you can go too then the long term practicality and durability. Like I say I think your price range is what we need too know if you can not wait for the more expensive ? as far as technicality goes the monitoring/headphone/PFL section is the first most important aspect to look into, and also if each Deck/channel has individual LED readout which will be best for the novice that will find it harder to match volume and gain levels without.

hey guys I'm also new to djing and saving for a descent controller. I really liked the concept of the eks otus but I was wondering what your opinions are on it. Right now I'm looking to spend 400-500 on a controller but if something is a lot more worth it I might be willing to wait. thanks!

First look at that eks and i think it would be a total waste since its $400+.
It's only got one jog wheel so it would be challenging to use especially for someone who has no experience. the S2 had a price drop recently so check that out. Also a good idea would be to go to your local guitar center/Sam ash and play around with controllers and see what feels good to you.
    anymore questions let me know!
