    Unhappy Advice

    Hello,

There have probably been thousands of these threads already, but hey, speakers costs a lot of money and since you can't preview or tests speakers on the internet, I decided to come here and seek advice.

About a month back or so, I bought the Reloop ADM-5 Studio set. The sound coming out of the speakers that costed me 150 euro was definitely not what I was looking for, and in my opinion definitely not worth the money. After playing a heavy drum n bass tune, the low-end woofer even bulged in and I shat my pants. I quickly moved a vacuum cleaner around it, packed it up and send it the hell back. I then realized maybe studio sets are not what I'm after. I want to be able to put the speakers hard when needed and enjoy the bass that's coming out of it, which is a very important of drum and bass. Hence the word bass in there, hehe.

So I decided to buy PA speakers, along with a amplifier. Like this I can always upgrade to better speakers in the future, and add a sub woofer when I feel like it.
I came across this (you probably can't post links in here so I'll post the specs)

AMPLIFIER: "SkyTec 2 x 500W DJ PA AMPLIFIER SPL1000 WITH EQ" (100 euro)

(specs are translated from Dutch to English)

    • Type: SPL-700EQ
    • Power - 4 Ohm: 2 x 500W
    • Power - 8 Ohm: 2 x 350W
    • THD: <0.5%
    • Frequency range: 20Hz-20kHz
    • Noise:> 98dB
    • Channel separation:> 82dB
    • Input level: 0dB
    • Input Impedance:> 10 kOhm
    • Output Impedance: 4-8 Ohm
    • Voltage: 230Vac, 50Hz =

As for speakers I'm not sure. Either this one, which comes as a set: (50 euros)

    • Power: 2 x 250W max
    • Woofer: 8 "/ 20cm
    Tweeter • 76 x 76mm
    • Impedance: 8 Ohm
    • Frequency range: 50Hz ~ 20kHz
    • SPL: 92dB max
    • Dimensions 29 x 48 x 25 cm
Note they dont say it has a 2-way-bass system or something.

Or this one (which is 30 euro each):

    2-way bass reflex system
    Power: 200 Watt
    Power: 400 watts peak
    Impedance: 8 Ohm
    Frequency range: 45Hz ~ 20kHz
    1W/1m SPL: 89dB
    Max 93 dB SPL
    passive 2-way speaker with 20cm (8 ") subwoofer
    Woofer with large magnet.

Sorry for the long posts, but I probably can't posts links to other websites. Haven't read up the rules yet. Thanks for reading this through and any advice or help is really appreciated as I don't want to run in the same mistake twice of buying a shitty set. Maybe I should also tell you I'm a beginner DJ and I also plan to use these speakers to throw little parties and stuff, so they're not only for personal use. Furthermore, I also produce my own music with Reason and Cubase.

    Cheers and thanks for replying,
    Flacito.

The best advice I can offer is that no speaker or amp costing less than 200 euros is worth having. If you're on a budget buy used, which also gives you the opportunity to hear it before you buy it.

Thing is I can't afford buying something that's around 300 Euro. Also everything above 300 Euro is probably an over-kill, because I won't be using it to its full potential. I'm not an audiophile, I just want to be able to have a big bass pumping out of my speakers without breaking them.

Then you must have the right tools to do it. If you want to do 250KPH on the Autobahn it won't be on a Vespa.

200 Euros will get you a decent pair of monitors, or a junk PA system. Plus, if the are powered, you won't need an amp.

Those amplifiers actually are dangerous. I've seen Skytec crap burst into flames. It's poorly designed, poorly manufactured, sounds like crap and is a fire hazard.
