    Air travel with equip...?

If anyone has much experience/tips/advice as far as traveling with your dj equip, it would much appreciated. Maybe some past experiences etc w/ specific airlines or some do's/dont's

Im specifically traveling with 1200's (2) rane ttm56 and laptop, domestic, not international

    Thanks for your time

I wouldn't do it. I have never travelled with my equipment by air but I have played alongside 2 other DJ's who had their gear (in flight cases) damaged by the TSA during their inspection.

I travel with my turntables (in flight cases) once in a while and check them in as fragile and "priority" items. I just pay a little extra for that service.

thanks for everyones input, it seems like a questionable risk, but i wonder if there is some sort of insurance you can purchase for your items, ill have to look into that

Don't do if if your life doesn't depend on it.

I traveled from the US to NZ with mt cdj's in my carry on. Bitch at the gate told me I had to check the bag even though it wasn't over-sized or anything.. I've don't this trip many times so i pretty much just kissed my cdjs goodbye and had a shitty 12hr flight all pissed off and shit because I knew they were gonna break.

Checked bag when I got to my destination... smashed platters. Wasn't surprised, just depressed.
I believe that plane was a 747 though with shit tonnes of luggage being dropped on each other from the conveyor belt... You might be ok on a smaller domestic plane with less luggage and cargo.

On a small domestic flight my guitar made it fine.

Yikes man I'm sorry to hear that. But did you say bag?
Isn't that what "flight" cases are for ?

Plenty of times. People in line give me crazy stares when I take out my computer and my Rane 57sl. It goes right through the xray. No questions asked. Done it plenty of times. Cant speak for turntables tho.

Yea if you are looking to travel and you rock 1200s, I would just say rent a pair locally or have the promoter rent them. If you are going to a major city, finding a TTM57 shouldn't be difficult either. So I would say backpack the mixer and laptop in a special gig bag made for that sort of thing and rent tables when you get to your destination.

Also, I don't know if its true (might be Myth...Mythbusters anyone?), but I've heard that if TSA turns up their scanners to look through a flightcase, they could magnetize the the top plate of the 1200 and basically ruin the deck
