What are your goals as a dj?

Simply, what are you goals for djing? Good bedroom dj for you own pleasure or are you wanting to play for the big crowds?
    Here's my:
When i started this hobby, and i really started at this spring when i bought a proper gear (cdj's and a mixer). Before that i only played around with a shitty ass cheap controller, it was just for my own pleasure. Maybe sometimes to enjoy my friends at a houseparty. But now, when this thing had pushed me ahead my goals are changed. No, i don't want to become a man who moves big crowds or anything like that. But now i think that i want somedays play music that i love, and what i want to share with other peoples, in some small club events i.e. at my regular drinkin bar. It's a bar that doesn't play top 40 shit and it's allways dj who plays the music. And there is a lot of other places in here that are on the same music line. Also i know few peolple who organize those kind of small parties outside etc. And that's the spot where i want now to be. I have set myself a target that in next summer i'm ready to go and offer me to play for public in those places. Almost a year time to practice and get comfortable for mixing. And expand my music collection. And offcourse, go for those home parties for practice playing for an live "audience". I think that biggest mount to climb is my stagefright.

I'm interested you other nOObs goals. Why are you starting this thing what is very expencive and timetaking?

ps. I posted couple of my first mixes here http://www.djforums.com/forums/showt...t-Century-pt-2 and if somebody can tell me how to improve my mixing i would be very grateful.

Pretty much to have fun and play good music. I wouldn't mind getting to play at the big gigs one day and make a lot of money but right now DJing is more of a hobby than a profession.

    Complete noob

Hey, im a complete noob, as i only started messing around with things on my mac a couple of months ago. I really dont know much about dj'ing but i really want to get into it somehow when i go to uni in a month and a half and try and make a bit of money out of it by hiring out small venues that have their own mixing set-ups and publicising electro-house type gigs. My aim is to initially run this as a hobby alongside my studies and see how it goes from there. Do you think this is a good way to get started?

My ultimate goal is to have my own successful Mobile DJ business, while having fun at the same time. I've always wanted to be a DJ, ever since I was a little kid, I always LOVED going to wedding and watch the DJ, the music, the lights, ect...

I want to get to a level where I can be a solid all-around type dj. I want to have the skill set of a dj who can not just mix but also scratch, and be able to do things that extremely successful radio dj's can do. As for type of Dj, I'd rather be a radio/mixtape Dj.

My goal as a DJ is to be well rounded in the craft and be able to lay down a proper on the fly technical set, amongst that I hope to play at some surrounding festivals and anything else that may come of it is icing on the cake.

I started hitting play aprox 3 years ago and have now upped my level to bringing people through short stories and soon I will be able to write novels.

My long term is to hopefully play Clubs and play my personally made tracks live. Of course before that I've just started to get beatmatching down on my S2 without assists, so I have a ways to go but I'll be finishing up college for the time being so I feel it works perfectly. Just playing to myself in my room is exciting, just wish I had less distractions when I was younger.

When i got my first set of TT's i messed around for 3 years and didn't take it serious then i set my ultimate goal which was to play in a small bar called 'Cube'.

    1st year DJ'n i practiced.
2nd year held a residency at the 'Cube'.
3rd year moved onto 2 clubs called 'Nemesis' and 'Mambos', was resident for both clubs.
4th year got a residency at the biggest club in town called 'DejaVu' 400 people every Friday 700 every Saturday. Also ran a clubnight in a local town for a year.
5th year DJ'n still doing my thing at my DejaVu residency alongside vetran DJ's.

So I'v achieved MUCH more than i originally wanted to achieve.
