Shit.. Mrkleen. I was not there as a 'professional' but yes I acted professional until I couldn't anymore. My mistake was playing there in the first place. Still however I was not going to let down the coorindator(s) and just leave. I did not have any music she would want. Christ just shoot me. I had to spend the next 6 hours there wondering if this loon was going to break all my gear.

No working DJ would have ever conducted himself in such an unprofessional manner - hence it must not have happened.

I actually clicked on the thread because of an issue I have with women coming up to my station with drinks in hand. One of my worst nightmares is that one of these nights an accident will happen, and was wondering if you had the same problem.

But you didn't. The problem you have is with yourself.

    This.

I can't believe some of you are such spineless worms. You know little of what he was hired for, have no idea the expectation the person hired him had, and he didn't make a public display of her, he just made her out to be the stupid-entitled twat she was in front of her friends.

Being professional is one thing and he made a point to say he was near packing up and leaving... Bitch deserved to be called out, this reminds me of the Steve Angelo vs Paris Hilton crap as bitches need to be checked on occasion: Especially ones that think the whole of the club/gig/event is representative of their narrow thinking.

This interesting plethora of replies that are negative has only made me realize that I have to continue to gain experience doing this and dealing with people who haven't heard this kind of music before. If I had any personal issues it was standing up in 100 degree heat for six hours and the stressful though that someone may damage what I had saved for for 5 years.

It has also made me realize that I am not about to just drop everything and play for James Taylor for a blue grass enthusiast (even though James Taylor is a legend and I do believe all good people listen to James Taylor - with the exception of this lady). I happen to think it was a very bold and brave to drop a complete DJ setup in town of less than 300 people that have probably only heard classic rock for 79 percent of their lives and start playing 2012 releases by Matt Rowan and Subsky. So I'd like to pat myself on the back for that.

She shouldn't have threatened to spill her beer on your shit. That said, I'd say don't even deal with her; direct her to management. Your job was to play the music you wanted to play, and the management knew this, so you were doing your job. Just like anytime you're serving someone (even for free), if they don't like how you're doing your job, they should go to management.

Anyway, I liked RedTail's analogy. A similar one would be going to a restaurant and ordering off-menu. Sometimes the server (DJ) can make that happen if the request is within reason compared to what else is on the menu. But if you go to a thai restaurant and ask for a bacon cheeseburger that shit isn't gonna happen. Unless you have money. Then, everyone apparently does anything you want. ANYTHING? Anything.

    Oh, and #campaignfinancereform

Right I mean this is a free country right? We DO have choices? If I don't like Pizza Hut I'll eat at Round table! I also advertised - it would be electronic music.

That is HALF of the story Sigma.

Yes the woman was a bitch, but if you want to use this as a learning experience for up and coming jocks on DJF - you need to add the SECOND half of the story.

That a good DJ knows his crowd before he accepts a gig (free or not) and that you dont play tech house in the middle of the afternoon at a venue that is known for playing "bluegrass"

If the truth is self righteous - tough shit.

No if Electronic Music was advertised the lady should've know and not have been such a twat. Sure you could've asked what she preferred to hear and work something out possibly. In the end though if that dumb twat didn't know what music was advertised than she can crawl back to her cave imo.
