Thread: Rude woman threatened to spill beer all over my decks

  1. #31
Cue slap my bitch up, ask "Mam, do I need to call security over here?". If she goes to drop her beer on your gear drop the track and slap her off the stage.

On a serious note the OP could have done worse. The only unprofessional thing you didn't do was call security or get the management. IMO you shouldn't have bothered confronting her afterwards, but chances are you won't see that group of friends ever again. Overall I'd give you a 7.5/10 on the decision making.

Don't think I needed to read the crowd even though I can just fine.
As mrkleen pointed out himself you said yourself that they werent ready. If you feel they are not then you play something chiller/downtempo/diverse until its the right time.

The woman was a twat no questions but there are much more effective ways to diffuse the situation than what you did. What you did was very confrontational and possibly harmful to the venue you were playing in.

You could have gotten out of it with a simple "sorry this is what i have been booked to play and most people seem to be enjoying it".

My bias is in that fact that no matter what its your job to defuse the situation rather than escalating it. That said im very glad someone is holding up the EDM flag in the boondocks.

+1.... wtf has happened to this site? All of this "you should have been ready to play some shit that you dont play" nonsense is just that.... nonsense. The only thing I wouldnt have done is left my gear to chase her.... thats just not smart on many different levels, most of all for security of your gear. How about look at this from the angle of the people that were there for the music he was going to play? Put yourself in their shoes and you start jammin some horseshit that they werent there for just to appease some sweaty blue grass twat? Its like if you advertise Strongbow on tap and EVERYONE hauls ass to your venue (because strongbow is the nectar of the gods) and as they get up to the bar you unveil Bud Light....

Lots of people liked his music and complimented him during his set.

One particular lady doesn't like the music.

    Lady didn't like the music.

Lady threatens gear because she doesn't like the music, while people are enjoying the music.

Lots of people liked his music and complimented him during his set.

...and you guys feel he should have ruined the mood by playing for the one person harassing him?

I wouldn't have walked up to her table, that's dangerous but I probably would have done something to piss her off (tell her she had titties on her back or something) ... Otherwise It would have got on my nerves so much that i'd run to djf and start complaining and get even more pissed off from all the different opinions... which in turn would ruin my day all because back-titties wanted to act like she ran the place..

Different opinions are fine as long as your not forcing them onto people as the word of God.

You should have glassed her then pulled her dress over her head (Hockey styles) and kicked her into an oncoming car. But at the same time you DO need to look at where your playing. You need to predict your play to an extent. If you host a Deep House night at a Rave club, you have to expect some ravers will show up (regulars) and be questioning what the fucks going on. Whether you can then go on to please them musically in some way shape or form is another question.

If it was me, I'd of tried to have worked in a remix of an old song. I DO try to please everyone as a Dj, even silly old bitches because it's a challenge. Accepting it and winning it will only make you better. But fuck, if you're going to follow a granny to her table you might as well flip it over and start raping the guests with a sawn off shot gun to their throats.

For everyone whose saying "Go to management" or "security", really.. Step into reality. Not everywhere is going to have management or security. Sometimes you have to handle shit your own. I think you just should have tried to explain a little bit more and been more reasonable (All sides involved) .... Perhaps with violence ... (no I'm kidding. Don't go stabbing grannies)

That's a mistake if you don't mind me saying. I had my fair share of bitches behaving like queens and everything's due to them when it pleases them, and threatened to break my gear. I have a simple one liner for this, and very effective. It goes like:

-"Do you know what happens if you break my equipment?"
    -"No, what?"
    -"This"

    While cutting the sound.

Dead air while everyone looks at her, from that point you can explain what she wants to the audience and she will get booed off. Or, keeping in mind that the staff will also be looking at you: gesture them to come see you and she will be escorted out of the premises immediately. In some places her friends would also be kicked out and she would end up as a complete idiot in front of them.

Works every single time, now the only thing I don't get is that it's only girls. I have never ever had a dude flipping out on me and threaten me because I wouldn't play his song. It's always the girls who behave like they own the place, had some coming with shitty scratched pirate mp3 CDs with a list of what's to be played from it, with all the cute kisses and "we love you DJ" etc written on it. Getting all aggro as soon as you pronounce the word no. Just bring the dead air while looking at her face(s - sometimes it's more than one) in delight and making a choice of what is going to happen to her next. Threatening behaviour should be dealt with swiftly and without compromise.

NB: you've got to love these girls who don't back down on not having their request played and send one or more of their friends afterwards. "Everyone is gonna dance to it, promise please please please", or other petty excuses like all of a sudden today becomes her birthday. There's a part of no some just won't understand.

Err no, the reality is: if you're going to be violent or threaten someone with violent intentions that have the potential to kill the party for everyone else in the building, you will be dealt with accordingly. If some cunt tells me she's going to spill some liquids on my (expensive) mixer, she can already consider lucky to have a lot of people around otherwise I would play that game called my hand on your face swiftly followed by my boot up your ass.

Again, no. If you don't like the music, you're in the wrong place. Deep house night means deep house, the DJ does not have to go out of his way just to please one single idiot. And if they're regulars I don't care. Same treatment: one you don't own the place, two the DJ has been hired to play what he plays. You can't just pop up in there and act like you represent the musical tastes of everyone that's in there, then threaten to break something because someone told you no in more ways than one.

Meh, you should've told a security guard/bartender/promoter that this broad was threatening to damage your gear.

Personally I would've told her that if she spills beer over my ish, one of my lady friends over here is going to back hand you. Thats just me though....
