Guys, I got some license available as a chat for the vBulletin forum as well. I don't use the license anymore, so you're able to use it!

I think a chat room would be pretty cool.

I would suggest something as open and available as possible. IRC would be a good alternative, you could join from on the site to connecting with an external, native client. I would love a DJF chat when I'm on the go with just my phone, and Flash is not ideal in that case.

Greedy bastards. I think we should have to handwrite our chats and send them to everyone. Get some respect in hurrr

I personally would like to see the chat be IRC based. You could use a custom java chat on the website for people who don't have IRC clients while those of us who do have them can log in without having to worry about a browser client. This also means you'd have more people idling which is a good thing because it will promote actual activity in the chat and you'll likely see a good number of people using it at all times.

Plus, there are a lot of mobile based IRC clients out there that are actually decent. AndChat for Android is what I use.

Preferably something non-flash based due to Apples lack of support. I'll have a talk to a guy I know who used to work at vBulletin for ideas...
