Hey People,

New here so sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post this.

I recently purchased this strobe light:

It comes with this dinky remote and I have only used it once for a small gig (In my barn) and it's rubbish (The remote), not really functional at all.

The thing is DMX compatible so that got me thinking, I need to get a controller for it, so I hopped on the interweb and tried searching for something to fit the bill, but I cant for the life of me find anything that Is in my price range �0-�50 and isn't for an lED strobe.

If someone could help me out that would be awesome, I'm not looking for anything major just need something that can allow me to change the brightness of the strobe (As it is far to bright on factory settings) and control the oscillations, that is preferably quiet straight forward to use and set up.

So i plan on purchasing this setup then getting a duplicate later on in the future. I wanted something very portable and able to all fit on one t-stand. I do small parties no larger than 100 people. Anything i should change? thanks

ok so some people i know use the cam sys magicq system to run their lighting system by they want to switch to something easier to use so i suggested sweet light but we have now found out that the universe they use isn't supported by the software so i was wondering if there was any way we could use that software just send the signal trough the magicq software from sweetlight any help would be great as they are a non-profit organisation who dont have 400 pound to splash out on the universe the software is ran of an old windows pc which will soon be replaced by a macbook pro
if you need any more information about the rig then just post it as a reply and i will get back to you as soon as i can find it out

i had my first synchronized uplighting gig this weekend using some American DJ mega bars, (been using uplighting for a while but always had it set to auto)

this time I had a controller and was able to "play" the lights live to the music. we had a band playing and I could fade the lights according to the mood and intensity of the music. also when I was djing afterwards I did the same thing. it was cool:)

if I wanted the lights to go back to auto all I had to do was turn the controller off and flick the first light (beside my dj booth) to auto. the rest would follow.

but I realised something. it seems to me that DMX equipment is not really very intuitive in comparison to other DJ equipment. (maybe its about where DJ mixers were in the mid eighties)

so I made this quick design of what I REALLY would like to have in order to control the lights MUSICALLY as a DJ would, using the stuff we know... crossfaders.

what do you think? does it exist? can it be home- made? (manufacturers! if you are reading.. lets to it :D )

[Advice Request] Stand/Wall Mount/Other for Lighting

I have a Chauvet Scorpion GBC 2.0 that weighs ~6lbs and then a smaller laser that weighs ~2lbs or less. I am trying to come up with some type of setup that isn't going to look like absolute garbage. All the tree stands I have seen are WAY too big for what I need. I'm trying to put this in the corner of my apartment (see attached pictures). I have thought about mounting it into the wall but I think it'd look like shit having wires running up the side of my wall. I'd almost rather do a truss that way it flows with the industrial look of the apartment and I can wrap the wires and have it look decent.

This is the area I will be putting whatever it is I purchase. I have 16" from wall to mini fridge, I can make more if need be but would rather not. I'm not terribly worried about the cost as long as it is worth it.

Pilot 2000 or pc?

Today I picked up some local used equipment from a theatrical company. I wanted the stands and LED par lights. they mentioned it came with a controller. I had no clue it was a pilot 2000. I usually use a much cheaper controller, and I have been looking at upgrading to some sort of PC based controller for my dmx lighting. I mostly do weddings and nightclub work, and never theatrical.
will the pilot 2000 serve my needs, or should I sell it? I am having trouble finding anything other than an owners manual online.

Definitely a worthwhile program to check out if you interested in controlling your lights
from your computer and especially if you're familiar with video editing software or use
Virtual DJ for your music.

I've recently expanded into some new territory doing the sound and light production for
a small mixed martial arts promotion. Realizing that my lighting controller was not going
to cut it I decided to take a look at some DMX software and ended up choosing Venue Magic AV.

The main selling point for me was the Virtual DJ plugin that essentially enables virtual DJ to have
a panel of programmable buttons on the same screen as the music you are playing.

The second selling point was the time line. You build light shows just like you put together a video
in a basic video editing program. Dragging a fixture onto the time line and then adjusting the DMX
levels to your needs.

The program comes with a large database of existing manufacturers and fixtures but if they are not
in there you can easily create your fixture and save it to a user fixture database.

You can create groups of lights and control the levels of those groups. ie You have 16 wash lights
you can make 2 groups called odd and even. Assign the appropriate DMX addresses to each of those
groups and have every second light do something different than the one next to it quite easily.

You can very easily put a light show to a particular song. It has a beat tapper although I haven't quite
got into that part of the program yet.

I've only just scratched the surface of what the program is capable of. Just like any professional software
there is a learning curve but once you know how things are done you can bang out new shows quickly.

There are some tutorial videos available to get you started that are OK. The customer service from Venuemagic
has been great. They have replied back to each of my questions regarding how to use some features of VM
within 24 hours.

Here is a little video of some of the light show I built for FiveStar Fight League. It took about 10 hours
to learn the program and create the following show. However, now that I know how to use the parts of the
program I need I could get this same thing done in 2 hours.

The only glitch that I've had is an occasion where one of the libraries went corrupt. If this happens you just
delete it or drag it onto the desktop and VM will created a new non corrupt library the next time you start it.
