Whats up guys,
I am a new DJ and just started about a month ago. I tried using the search bar to find this answer but I couldn't find it or I just passed it up so i'm sorry if this is a repeat lol My problem is with audacity and recording my mix and the tracks that are playing. I have the basic new dj set up consisting of a mixtrack pro, serato intro LE, and unmark NMP5's. The problem is audacity is recording the track that is being cued. So while the track in deck a is playing, you could here me mixing/scratching and lining up the track in deck B.

Heres the setup:

Mixtrack is connected to macbook pro via USB.
Mixtrack is connected to NMP's via RCA's in output 1.
Mixtrack is connected to macbook pro's line/mic in port (the aux port that is next to the one that you would connect headphones, I am guessing that is the mic port) via RCA to 1/8 cable. this is connected in the mixtrack's output 2 RCA's in the back.

So basically, the monitors (NMP's) will have the right sound which is my mix without hearing me scratching the next song which is on the cued deck, BUT audacity will be recording both the deck playing, and the deck that is being cued. The deck that is being cued does have the crossfader all the way over, and everything looks good.

Sorry if this is a basic n00b question, but its bothering me. I literally tried for three hours looking for an answer and playing around to figuring this thing out, but its being a pain in my ass still lol

Thanks a lot for the help guys

PS idk if i should have posted this in production and recording, but i figured this is a basic question that a lot of beginner dj's might ask so I put it here. lmk if I should post it there instead or for next time asking a recording question.

Equipment Advice

Alright, so I am new to the DJ world for the most part and I am looking to get my own equipment. I have worked for a mobile DJ company for a bit and they have some pretty shitty gear. I would like something that I can learn on and take those skills to the clubs and elsewhere. I do not want to just mobile DJ forever as I do not really get to play the music I would like to be playing someday.

Anyways, I have a DJ friend that grew up on vinyl and he is pushing CDJ's pretty heavy because he says they will be better to learn on than a controller. He wants me to get cdj-2000's, but that is more than I want to spend for a beginning set up. I was considering cdj 1000 mk3 but I do want something that will have resale value if I am buying expensive pios and I want something that is more technologically advanced that will keep up with the times and that I can use with traktor or serato at some point like the cdj 850 or 900(which are a little more than I would like to spend.) But the 850s have some drawbacks that I am leary of, but I am not sure if they are that relevant to my situation.

Currently I just picked up a cheap djm-300 mixer that I will upgrade later, I want CDJ's for around $1000, I can pay up to $3000 but I just don't feel that is necessary to start with, and then I would not have any other money for gear. I am considering the Mackie Thump self powered speakers as well.

So the questions are, should I start with CDJ's? If so, what would you consider getting with the transition to controllers currently happening? What budget speakers do you recommend? What other gear do you recommend for mobile djing, small venues, and training for the clubs? Is it safe to buy used? Where do you recommend looking besides craigs, guitar center, musicians friend, ebay, amazon.

Thanks

Just a question that occurred to me
(I'm no beginner but I guess the beginner section is as good as any for the question)

I'm a pretty shy person generally and as a dj I have always 'let the music speak for me'
Definitely did not get into this game for attention
I used to get real nervous about talking on the mic

I overcame that simply because I had to ... Situations came up where the mic was needed and I just did it
Im ok now i can use the mic for announcements n stuff Though still I prefer not to use it Unless I have to

I have noticed that the tone of my voice can really influence people's response, it can be the difference between everybody cheering or just one grunt from a guy in the corner lol

I have seen djs who are amazing at this, so much so that it can even overshadow their mixing skills (or lack thereof)

But I just thaught I would throw it out there
For those of you who are good at this

What tips would you have ?

I was wondering if Traktor has a visual beatmach? Someone told me there is but I just can't seem to identify it.
I was using a demo version of Serato and it has a visual aid for Beatmatching with grid lines when both songs lined up right there waves.

Now, I understand this isn't the greatest way to beatmatch and to do it by ear. I've been trying to do it solely by ear, for the most part I can speed and slow down a track that's the same on both decks and match them up but when I try two different tracks I can't do it at all.
So, I want to keep practicing like this but at least be able to confirm if my ears are matching up also.

I am a young kid, first year in college so naturally you realize I am broke. I have always had a thing for music, lights, and DJing. I wanna get started with my own little set-up and do some gigs for the summer for some fun and experience. The problem I have is I am extremely short on money. If there is anyone willing to donate their equipment that they arent using to help out a fellow person I would appreciate that! Let me know what you have, looking for a solid basic set-up with sound, controllers, mixers, maybe lights to add the extra touch! Thanks!!

It was Knife Party Internet Friends lmao. I told him I appreciate his knowledge of music but I unfortunately did not own a version that was suitable to play. I also was approached for a 40th bday party and a graduation party while working. Not to mention the school said I am now their official DJ and have all of their business. All in all a great day. Rewarded myself with some beers to celebrate before I head out to one of the parents after party tonight which I will not be playing at but enjoying myself as a guest. Thanks for all the tips/guidance from all of you here on DJF.

Hey guys, so I have just started getting interested in live DJing and making mixes (Im using VDJ and a Mixtrack Pro) and I need some help regarding my transitions and switching between 2 songs, at the moment I can transition OK but its always a very simple and sometimes sloppy (Track 1 Fade to Track 2)
I have been looking online for a good video/guide to show me how to transition well and make good mixes but I honestly cant find one that's really detailed and suited to mixing using a controller.

Just wondering if you guys could perhaps give me a few pointers and or direct me towards a learning resource for transitioning and mixing, below are a couple of links to my mixes I have done at the moment, tell me what I am doing wrong etc

https://soundcloud.com/cgvince/soh1/s-YDNlY (This was done just using a keyboard and mouse)

https://soundcloud.com/cgvince/djforumstest This mix was done with my mixtrack pro, I know it may sound stupid but IMO the mix that I did on the mouse and keyboard was actually better than this (IGNORE THE LAST 30-1:00, I pressed the cue button by accident)

Thanks

So I've only decided to be a DJ in my house for about 8 months now, and I started going around to all the local clubs to meet DJ's and watch them play to learn techniques and all that jazz. Well one of the DJ's has somewhat taken me under his wing and his teaching me all sorts of great things and then he asked how ballsy I was, and set me up to play in this big college towns' night club...which is ghetto booty dancing and rap music. All I've typically practiced is EDM, but from watching and learning from this DJ he's already taught me a good bit about playing hip hop. I am familiar with a lot of old school hip hop and I really enjoy it, but I am not nearly as up to date with "knowing" the music as I should be, but I'm not going to say no to an opportunity like this. Any thoughts or ideas that might help make this a less nerve wracking experience, or am I probably going to pee my pants from being scared anyways?
