Ok, We've all heard people talk about how they think (or hope) Random Access memories is going to change the direction of Electronic music and "unbrainwash" people and blah blah blah, you've read the articles. But do you really think its going to have that much of an impact on the direction in which electronic music is going? I think people are going to be buying the album, just because its Daft Punk, but then go right back to listening and or producing the same stuff they were been before the release. I really dont think this album is going to have much of an impact as people are hoping for. Yes, I'm glad they have new material coming out, but I feel like its over hyped. So what are your thoughts? Will it be a game changer? or will it be a wash?

This guy is one of my biggest inspirations, and he is slap wasted in this video. He is catching a lot of shit for this. Right off the rip the music stops and he proclaims just how "fucked" (in more way than one) he is and that he is just there for the after party, pretty out of control with the filters too. Epic back spin at about 8:15....WOW! 12:40, trainwreck followed by more epic backspin then more music cut out. The songs he plays are great though for sure.

Still through all the bs he lays it down pretty nice, minus the drunken/high mistakes. In one way or another though I think we have most all been in this situation. The main difference is that he is pretty much a legend. He is one of the people that pretty much invented dubstep from UK Garage.

I have lost zer0 respect for him because of this. But damn Skream, you were wasted bro!!

I don't get it.
People talk as if it's a new thing. Is it just that people never used the acronym until 2011 or do people actually think that's when EDM was born?

It has bothered me ever since I listened to an A-Trak radio show about 6 months ago where a song had a cool little breakdown and he said "It's getting a little EDM in here, but don't worry." I don't understand. The entire mix was made of EDM. I'm certainly not old. I'm only 23, but in the last 6-7 years of clubbing and mixing, there has been very little change in the music in Melbourne clubs. I mean, 'dutch' synths and 'complextro' bass is more common but it's always been 130 bpm in our clubs.

I'm sure electro house and similar genres have been around for a while in the US so what is EDM? What are people talking about when they bring it up?

"Daft Punk are very talented, and have contributed so much to this electronic music scene, but I fail to see how they’ve affected EDM, which has only really materialized over the last couple of years."
This is the quote I saw moments ago that prompted the idea to write this thread.
I mean, Deadmau5 won a Grammy for his remix of The Longest Road in 2008. Surely people in the US were listening to that track. The Chemical Brothers have been huge for far longer than that. Benny Benassi didn't exactly come out with satisfaction in 2012.
Maybe clubs are just different in Australia but what we call EDM, Electro, House, Prog House, etc. has been popular since I was in primary school (13 years ago) and probably before that.

What part of this do I not understand? Why do people talk as if EDM is a new thing?

EDIT: Also EDM isn't a term I would normally use because it's not very specific. In fact it;s in no way specific. But I'd say everyone 15 and over with any interest in dance music would have known what it was in 2005. I don't mean to sound like an elitist 'I knew what it meant first' kinda guy but I don't understand why people like A-Trak would say one song out of his show of 20 songs was 'a little EDM'.

That to me is like listening to an ACDC album and saying that a particular song is a bit 'Rock & Roll' compared the rest.

I've uploaded a couple of mixes to YouTube, but so far, I've not had many views.

Mix 1 = Uploaded 8 months ago = 925 views
Mix 2 = Uploaded 4 days ago = 28 views

I don't want to use shady tactics to boost views, but I'm wondering if there's a trick that I'm missing. I do tag my videos with plenty of tags - usually things like "DJ mix", "mixtape", "80s funk" etc. and I also use tags of the artist names and what have you, but that doesn't seem to be doing much.

I'm asking because I see mixes with similar content to mine and with similar names that have 100,000+ views. How are people getting their view count so high? They're just bedroom DJs like me, so it's not like they're famous names or anything.

Anyone have any tips?

So I've just been scanning for some EDM tunes from up and coming artists and I stumbled across a song called "Niva" now the first link I clicked on had 28K views and it was "by Alesso and Avicii" :blank: obviously I knew this was just another fake title (as 90% of EDM on youtube seems to be aviciis work, nothing against avicii mind)

Anyway I dug a little deeper and discovered that the song was actually made by a guy called David Larkie and this guy seems to be pretty much off the radar in the EDM scene (no twitter, fan page etc) I'm honestly pretty surprised that this guy hasn't been recognised yet as his tracks are really good and they sound really professionally produced and mastered

Have a listen to these and let me know what you guys think of his tracks, I promise This isn't a shameless plug for David Larkie I just feel that some artists deserve some recognition, IMO this guy should be releasing on itunes beatport etc but instead hes basically non existent apart from his 3 tracks.

His style is very similar to that of Romero,Avicii,Alesso etc

Hi. I am not, technically, a DJ, but I do provide background music for lots of events in my hometown, as well as in the community center that I manage.

I am really sick of fighting with iTunes and I'd like a piece of software that will just scramble the 6000+ songs in my library and play them back without any hassle, so I downloaded the free trial version of Zulu from NCH. Now I have two questions:

1. Assuming I want to run this software on my laptop AND on two or three computers that I've set up as music servers only, a) do I need to purchase a license? and b) would the free (unlicensed) version give me the Shuffle and Auto Play features?

2. The Shuffle/Auto Play mode seems to only shuffle the first fifty songs or so. Is this a glitch in the software, or is there a way to expand the reach of the shuffle? In other words, if I load in a folder of 1950's music, followed by folders of 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's music, etc., the program seems to just hang on the 1950's folder forever. If this can't be fixed, it's a deal-breaker, as I need to provide a wide variety of music all day long.

Thanks for your help!

i sent in a track to a label via dropbox soundcloud (so only that user can see it). I forgot to turn off the downloads. It currently has 4 plays, and 1 download. They have not emailed me back, or had any contact. They have also posted on their FB page "we have a huge up coming release, stay tuned!"

This isnt a small time label either, its Enhanced Records, so i dunno if they are taking their time to get back to me, or if i just gave them a free track.
