Behringer NOX404 PRO DJ MIXER

Behringer NOX404 PRO DJ MIXER

I will first admit, I am a little bias towards Behringer products, I have their Eurolive 208B’s and the 215B’s powered speakers and extremely satisfied for their speakers quality and sound. Anyway to my review, NOX404, if you looking for an entry level scratch mixer or otherwise look no further. I lucked up GC had the 15% discounts and with the price of the mixer 229. Total $216 and change with taxes and free shipping. Win Win.

I purchased the mixer not just for the price alone but the features, channel faders very smooth and reversible, with separate curve adjust, you can also pan left to right the up faders as well. Along with the Infinium optical crossfader with reverse and separate X,Y curve adjust, with a 1mm cut in, and tension adjust you will be crab scratching in no time.

NOX404 have aux in and out, line/usb for audio recording and playback from your pc and phono select of course, effects are assignable with TAP and the mixer has a send and return TRS for an external effects processor so I can use my EFX500, which lead me to choose the NOX404 over big sister A&H XONE22.

Not really a CON but an observation: The POTS are plastic, but so are the POTS on my Pioneer EFX500, and the mixer EQ’s are not full kill as advertised. I turned the high's mid's and low's to kill, set the gains and master at the 12 o’clock position you have full kill, no sound, but when I turned the gains and master past 3 o’clock to max, I heard audio from my speakers the audio was faint. But at human levels you do have full kill.

Now the challenge will be to find vinyl in my area, I'm 20 minutes from NY, I we had a spot in New Jersey, the N.E. area to be exact, that sold vinyl. The two crates of vinyl I have with tunes from the 80's and 90's ain't helping the cause. I'm looking for some Underground, Deep House etc to mix.

Xone 92 vs Xone DB2 (objective comparison without analogue-bias)

I have Xone 92 mixer and have been thinking about switching to Xone db2. Before you say that there have been similar posts about it before, let me...

I have Xone 92 mixer and have been thinking about switching to Xone db2. Before you say that there have been similar posts about it before, let me explain what questions I have and why I haven't found an answer to them in any of those posts.
The main advantage of db2 for me is:
- isolation eq mode - I haven't personally checked it out but from what i have read, most people who have a mixer with that mode, switched to isolation eq style of mixing
- effects - probably more than I will ever need and of studio quality
- input matrix - a nice feature which lends itself to exciting experiments setting up loops/effects on the same track on different channels

What I would like to know is:
- Is isolaltion/full kill eq mode a really that big of a deal, meaning opening up a whole new dimension in mixing style, and whether I could mimic it easily on xone 92 - as I said, I haven't personally tried/heard it so it is hard for me to judge whether I can mimic it on my 92.
- filters - how the filters on db2 compare to Xone 92 filters - objectively, without typical analogue-bias. Also, how do they compare to Xone 92/ send-return Ableton FX combination - I haven't personally tried it out and I am very curious whether such combination is manageable - ease of use and how the quality of effects compares to db2 effects.
- if someone made a similar transition from Xone 92 to db2, I'm interested what his/her impressions are and whether they're happy about it or regret it and, if so, why

The problem with all threads involving Xone 92 people got hung up on 4-band eq and analog filters and waste entire thread glorifying them because it's an analogue mixer without objectively focusing on concrete reasons why other mixers that they are supposed to compare it to are worse in that regard. Also, someone usually brings up that shorter led meter thing with db2 and, all of the sudden, discussion steers towards db4 because someone mentioned that because of that he will only buy db4. Then everyone starts talking about how much they want db4 and how expensive it is and again, it pretty much kills the original thread which was dealing with comparison to db2.

Thanks in advance for help

Hey all, I have a Xone 3D.

Recently, I have very loud noise coming through the headphones and I've deduced it is somehow related to the MIDI knobs on the xone. The noise is like a fast buzzing sound, and does seem to correlated to the midi controllers, when moving them you hear the noise. I have unplugged everything from the xone, and even tried a different wall outlet (I have everything plugged into a Furman Voltage Regulator, and my power is clean, but I tried everything).

What I have found is that if all the midi pods at the top are all turned to the right, and all the sliders are pushed up, the noise goes away. As soon as one is moved a little, an incredible amount of noise is injected into the headphones. If the pods are moved to the left and the sliders are all down, the noise goes away.

Thoughts? It's really bad, and there should be no feedback injected into headphone jacks (I also tried different headphones).

thanks

Currently I'm using the Rane TTM57SL with SSL. I'm getting bored with the mixer and want to try something different - mostly because I hate how the efx are setup in the 57.

I'm 70% Hip Hop, 20% Club, and 10% whatever the f I wanna play. I use the echo and HP/LP Filters a lot. I also use loops and scratch (still learning).

Two of my guys have the 62 and it's a very nice mixer. I'm not one to spend a ton of money on a mixer though. I usually buy them used or second hand. The Pioneer 800 is my all time favorite mixer. I love the filter and echo all being right there and available at all times without having to hit a ton of button combinations.

Anyways, the 62 and Z2 both have what I'm looking for in a mixer. Also, if I go with the Z2, I will have the chance to start new with crates and make the Traktor setup basically my performance setup for routines, live remixing, and regular play. The z2 is half the price of a 62.

Can anyone compare the two or give me any advice that will help make my decision easier?

As some of you are aware I have started up a website with a friend which covers Techno in London, on this we have event reviews, equipment reviews and interviews with DJ's among other things (www.londontechnoblog.com).

We do an update once at the weekend and once midweek, coming up soon on it is my review of the DJM850. I've had a few questions about this mixer, and I did say when I bought it I'd get a review up at some point. So here it is, before it even goes on my website, please feel free to add to it.

DJM850 Review

The DJM-800 has been a popular mixer among DJs for many years, this week we take a look at its updated brother, the DJM-850. This is a 4 channel professional mixer recommended for home or club use for those that need many of the features of the DJM-900 (and some the DJM-900 doesn’t have) without the price tag. But don’t get confused, this is still an expensive professional piece of kit, but with the DJM800 discontinued the DJM-850 is a brilliant well built update for those in the market for a new mixer.

One thing that is quickly apparent is the digital S/PDIF inputs which were on the DJM-800 are now no longer, only to appear on the more expensive DJM-900, that is really the only noticeable loss to the DJM-800, other than that first impressions are the DJM-850 (like all DJMs) is extremely well built and you can feel that in the weight of the mixer.

The two phono inputs are on channels one and four, the other eight inputs are all line and there are two mic inputs, one on the top panel (XLR connection) and the other on the back panel (6.3mm jack connection). Other connections including headphone jack on the top left hand side of the mixer and the fader start for all 4 channels can be found just above that. Both the line faders and cross faders have three-way curve adjustment, selectable by the adjustment switches just to the right of the channel faders, and they are the same faders found on the DJM-900. We have found the channel faders to be more than sufficient, very sturdy, not too loose and responsive enough for cutting up the music.

Also grouped with the channel curve is the EQ curve, which can be changed between EQ and Isolator which essentially changes the EQ’s between 3 band EQ and 3 band isolator, allowing complete kill of channels similar to that on the DJM-1000.

Above the channel faders we have the pots for the Colour FX, these effects are NOISE, GATE, CRUSH, and FILTER, and just to the top left of those are small buttons (easy to miss) which add an extra layer of effect to the colour effects by using sidechaining, which listens to the channels and then changes the parameters of the engaged effect.

This means the Colour FX can be used in two different modes allowing for some added creativity with effects. Continuing on the theme of the mixers effects, the normal beat effects on the right hand side of the mixer have also changed slightly. Along with the additions of UP ECHO, SPIRAL, and SLIP ROLL, the quality and the way the effects work have improved a lot over the DJM-800.

The dry/wet knob now not only increases the effected depth of the signal but also changes or adds a new effect and parameters after the 12 o’clock position. For example, on the Reverb effect, once you get to the 12 o’clock position any additional turning of that knob brings in a filter effect too, and not only that, but then hitting the big orange effect on/off button doesn’t just cut the effect (as happens with the DJM-800) but lets it gradually fade out, the time of the fade depending on the position of the wet/dry knob.

My only real issue with the effects, and this goes for almost every mixer on the market is that there isn’t a separate FX Loop, which means if you have, for example, an EFX-1000 and you want to use that in conjunction with the mixer effects, you can’t. Denon managed to do this on their DNX-1500, which was about £600 when new, so I see no reason why a mixer that is twice the price cannot incorporate such a useful addition into their mixers. But this isn’t just Pioneer, this is pretty much every DJ mixer manufacturer on the market, please take note, and do something about it.

The Pioneer DJM-850 mixer is also Traktor Scratch Certified with a “studio grade” inbuilt soundcard. This means you can use your timecode CDs or Vinyl on up to 4 different decks, without having to pay out for an extra soundcard, it is basically like having an Traktor Audio 10 built in as well as control other DVS software, this is great for quick and easy setup DJs, the only problem being if you are changing over DJ’s and both want to use the built in card, but with a different computer. Someone is going to have to take a CD or vinyl in order for the music to be continuous, although this is more of a problem in the club than at home.

Other features on this is the ability to use it as a MIDI controller. Almost all of the available faders, buttons and pots on the DJM850 are assignable to transmit MIDI data, however they still affect the audio when in MIDI mode, but another little feature is the ability to transmit MIDI time data to keep external sequencers and FX all synced, although this has proven to not be perfect.

On sound quality, regardless of which input or feature of the mixer we cover, there is an improvement over the DJM-800, which has come under a bit of fire for not quite being the high quality sound you’d expect from a high-end mixer, so it is good news that the DJM-850 is a noticeable upgrade in sound quality.

The only other major downfall for this mixer would be for CDJ-900 and CDJ-2000 users who take advantage of the Rekordbox software to manage their music. The DJM-850 is not compatible with Rekordbox so it cannot sync the BPM and other information with the CDJs. This is a bit of a letdown on a mixer that is packed full of features to suit almost any kind of DJ, however the mixer does a good enough job at BPM detection for the beat effects and DJs have survived without sync for long enough for this not to really matter so much.

In conclusion, the Pioneer DJM-850 is one of the best four channel DJ mixers available to buy and significantly cheaper than the DJM-900. The build quality and sound quality are up to scratch, with anyone who owns a DJM-850 commenting (or at least in agreement with the comment) that the DJM-850 is built like a tank and sounds great. The DJM-850 is Traktor Scratch Certified and you are able to utilise up to four external DVS-timecode decks and Traktor Pro simply and easily. The effects section is very comprehensive, with the addition of the new Sound Colour Effects and switchable EQ controls. The linefaders are great for mixing and crossfader is good enough for scratching, and a good selection of inputs on the back. The only real downfall of the DJM-850 is its lack of compatibility with the Rekordbox software.

Hi all,
Im new here. This weekend I undertook the mod peoject on my pioneer djm t1 mixer. I concluded that the serato sl1
Fits perfectly under the faders. I followed the blog step by step from http://scotched.tumblr.com/post/9433...mixer......but ran into some issues. I believe that was designed to work for turntables.
I want mine to work with cdjs and turntables at my choosing.
Being that my mixer has independent switch for phone/lines....im a bit confused.
Also is there a way to get them wired to serato to work if I want to play regular cds on my cdj or real vinyl
On my turntables that will work. Ive searched and searched but have not found a
Clear answer. When I followed the instructions above...serato was working in my cdjs but I could also hear the time code sound at the same time. When I flipped the switch to line I would only hear the time code sound.
I got frustrated and stopped and now need some help.

Should I have wired the sl1 inputs into the line inputs of my pioneer djm t1?
If so where should the outputs of the SL1 be wired to? Is there a need to wire the thrus?

PLEASE HELP!

Hey Scratch DJs,

I've been practicing my crab scratch for quite some time and stumbled across some information on the web about modifying your stock crossfader. I'm trying to figure out how to do the "credit card mod" so that I can reduce the cut-in time of the fader. Does anyone know exactly how I go about doing this? I can't find much info about how to do it on the world wide web nor on youtube. I have a Rane tt56s by the way.

For those of you who own or have used the xone:92, when cueing up a track, at which position does the cue/mix knob allow you to "evenly" hear both live and cued track? Mine gets even almost all the way turned to "add mix", around 4'oclock. Just wondering if this is normal?
