View Full Version : Problem WIth My Turntables

First of all I want to say that I' pretty new to djing and that I don't know a whole lot about the equipment.

I have two Numark TT1625's & every time I put the needle to the wax this happens.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzci1-1wBsM

It does that on both turntables.

If I got a new cartridges would that fix the problem?

The one I have now is a Shure M25C, which I've had for maybe 2-3 years now. I'm not sure if it's great for scratching, but I definitely use it for scratching.

Or should I just get new turntables?

Because the one's I really wanted when I bought my first turntables was the Technics SL1200's. The 1200's were way too expensive, so I ended up going with 2 TT1526's for $40. on Ebay.

seems like there is not enough weight on the tonearm to keep the needle on the record. i don't use TTs so that is just wild guess.

You could try calibrating the weight on your tonearm but it looks more like you need new carts.

Adjust the anti skate, looks like your counterweight is on backwards let me find a video on proper setup

Edit: Here's a vid

For those carts, you should have the weight set between 1.5-3.0 grams. If none of this works try replacing the stylus

Does every turntable have an anti-skate on it?

I'm guessing that this is the anti-skate on my turntable, correct?

I turned the counterweights around, so now there not backwards.

Okay so now the tonearm does not slide, but there's still a problem though.

Make sure you listen to the video with the volume on so you can hear what it's doing.

So would you guys say I need a new cart?

If yes than please let me know which ones are good for scratching and already come attached to the headshell.

I'd say so, that grinding does not sound very good. Have you tried to see if the stylus of the cart can ride on the grooves of the record? Also, for any DJ no matter just mixing/scratching i'd recomment the Shure M44-7H which comes premounted on a Technics headshell. They're pretty much the best.

What? Can you please explain what exactly you mean?

Like I said when it comes to dj equipment I'm pretty clueless.

Yes, that is the anti skate. Did you follow the steps in the video I posted? Tonearm balanced and proper weight?

you need new needles and looks like you dont have enought weight on the tonear.

slide the weight inwards toward the record and it should click then put the needle on the record and it should play.

Okay so it looks like I'm going to have to buy a new cart than.

What do you guys think about the Numark CX-1 & the Shure M44-7?

Like I said above I want a cart that's already attached to the headshell & is good for scratching.

& the Shure M44-7?

Like I said above I want a cart that's already attached to the headshell & is good for scratching. That one does not come with a headshell, you want the Shure M44-7H.

Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Okay, so now it does not slide at all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4dYyu-5ATI

The way it's skipping like that,, do I need to get a new needle?

Would it not skip if I bought a new cart?

If I do have to buy a new one, I'm leaning toward the Numark CX-1.

I'm not an expert or anything, but it seems pretty good to me.

Anybody else use the CX-1?

The counterweight looks like it's on backwards, the numbers should be facing you.

Step 1. Place the counterweight on correctly.
Step 2. Lift the tonearm and then adjust the counterweight until the tonearm floats level.
Step 3. Turn the dial with the numbers to 0(not the entire counterweight)and then turn it until it reads between 1.5-3.0(you will have to find the sweet spot)

I recommend these carts

Step 3. Turn the dial with the numbers to 0(not the entire counterweight)and then turn it until it reads between 1.5-3.0(you will have to find the sweet spot)1.5 grams sounds too light for scratching in my opinion. Myself personally, I'd set it somewhere between 2.5 grams & 3.5 grams.

Looks like he needs to push the weight foward to put weight on the needle.

And if it Still makes the sound replace the needle cause the tip is gone.

True, but I've never had a problem with skipping when the cart was set up properly, but I'm also light handed

just adjust the weight till it doesnt skip, if it sounds like poop, clean the record, if it still sounds bad, get a new styli (may be cheapest route) for the cart u have.

but....the shures mounted on the headshell are killer, its what i use.
