This is mainly for turntablists who want to record their scratch audio only, while listening to BOTH their scratches and instrumentals at the same time. This allows you to multi-track or layer your scratch audio however you please, without needing to a "one take". It also serves as a silent metronome.

Doing that is likely to damage the headphone amp over time.

Could you elaborate a bit on that? I'm using HD-25-1 II's btw.

You're cramming an input (voltage) into something that's supposed to be an output. That's going to damage the headphone amp eventually, the only question is how long it will take.

If you have an effects send that is post-fader, you may be able to assign the scratching channel to that effects send, and record from the effects send output.

or you can setup a multitrack recorder, record the instrumental, then record the scratching later....its nothing new, nor is it expensive these days

the turntable is pre-fader

so why dont you pick up a phono pre amp and just split the output of the pre,one to the mixer line in and one to your record device. Also, if you are just recording the turntable pre xfader, your are going to hear all of the back cueing of the record. Is that what you are looking for?

Woops I read that wrong, the turntable is post fader (recording the cuts). I'm recording only the post-fader audio of the tt while cueing (not recording) an instrumental looper

so record you instrumental into your DAW. Then you can record a second track as your scratch track that will be post xfader.
