I didn't go to the one in LA at all because I didn't really have the interest or the funds to attend. However, I did go with quite a few experienced EDC attendees, and the majority said that Vegas was a much better venue + setup etc than Los Angeles.

I rarely go see other DJs perform, in all honesty. I thought about seeing Steve Aoki when he came through Tulsa a while back, but missed it.

I saw VNV Nation in Tulsa four nights ago, and they were amazing as usual. Ronan Harris is still one of the best frontmen in the electronic music industry, as far as I'm concerned, and he's a supernice guy to meet, too.

I'm seriously considering going to see the Black Keys when they play Tulsa in April, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers when they come through here in October.

Thank you very much! This was my second time seeing them perform live, both times in Tulsa. The cool thing about seeing them here is that even though the crowd is small (around 200 people, maybe), a lot of the people in that crowd are fairly rabid fans of VNV. So, Ronan not only goes through a great VNV set, but he also takes time between songs (or during songs) to joke with the crowd, point people out, and really have fun.

For instance, I remember during the first show I attended - back in 2010, before Ronan lost some weight. He was screaming at people to dance (which they were) during a song, and he pointed to someone off to the side of the crowd and yelled, "I am older than you, and I'm bigger than you, and if I can move, then you f***ing can, too."

This time around, he took time between songs to point out two friends of mine, explained to everyone that he had met their very young son earlier in the day, and explained that the last time he was in Tulsa, he had talked to the son through the mother's belly. At another point in the show, he even handed the mic to some guy in the crowd between songs so that the guy could propose to his girlfriend.

It's interesting seeing videos online of VNV Nation in other parts of the world, performing for crowds of thousands. Despite the drawbacks of living in a town like Tulsa, there are some advantages - and the ability to see bands like VNV Nation in such a relatively intimate setting is one of them.

Sadly, I am not familiar with his work, but I have at least heard of his alias, "Komor Kommando." If I'm not mistaken, "End: the DJ" has been involved with Komor Kommando, and End occasionally plays at the Assimilation events here in Tulsa.

I might go see some of the Assimilation events this year... but every time I go, I essentially show up and within 30 minutes of mind-numbing boredom I remind myself why I don't attend Assimilation more often. (The boredom isn't so much attributed to the music as it is to the crowd.)

I saw DJ Jazzy Jeff twice. The first time was last year and he KIIIIIILLED it. I saw him this past Sunday and too be honest, he didn't have the same WOW factor as he did last time. We all waited for him to do a sick old school set, but he only threw on a couple songs, and he did a small juggle. Don't get me wrong, I can't do a quarter of the stuff he does. Anyways, most of the time he ended up playing all the newer songs. My boy had the set after him and it seemed like Jazzy was playing all the bangers when we're used to hearing him play all the older jams. Maybe the guy that threw a water bottle on stage threw Jazzy Jeff of his game. Was still a great show, I got to shake his hand after his set.

In the last month I've seen Mike Dehnert, Levon Vincent, Ben Klock, Laurent Garnier, Boddika and Audiojack. In the next 2 weeks I'll see Andrew Weatherall, Matthew Dear, Theo Parrish, and probably a few more I'm forgetting. Ivan Smagghe and Carl Craig are also possibles. Didn't manage to make it to Omar S, Blawan and Joy Orbison in the last couple of weeks. Could go to DJ Sneak and Heidi tonight but not sure if I can afford it/be bothered.

Saw Jeff Mills and DFRNT on Thursday. Mills is a mad man. Seriously within the first 30mins of his set he went through about 40+ tunes. He was playing on 4 CDJs and played a flawless set. The only weird thing about his set was he made the promoter purchase a rug so that he could sit on the ground while he played.


DFRNT was dope as well. Played a few bangin dubstep bits and some future bass.

Did you enjoy them? The guitarist is a friend of mine, we did the same degree at uni so were in all the same classes. Great to see them getting big now, I'm not always a huge fan of that sort of music but they're really good at what they do.

Saw J:Kenzo yesterday and he smashed it at Garfield Park in Washington DC. Started off w/ some bangin dubstep bits and ended his set w/ a few dancehall cuts.

This weekend is Love Music Festival at my hometown (Tampere). Lot's of good DJ's from Finland, also a big list of Finnish rappers. You probably don't know enybody of them but friday evening is two gigs from artist you might know. Groove Armada and Basement Jaxx. Both band's make a dj set so let's see what they have to offer to us.
