can anyone point me in the right direction for a comparison of mk2s and m3ds that is after 2010?

I've searched about 5 different forums and they are from 2001 to 2004. 10 years makes a difference.

I've tried searching on here, but I can't seem to get the wording correct to find any good threads.

Here is my reason for asking.

I have a chance to buy either 1200 MK2s from 93, or 1200 M3Ds (he called them Mk3s(his are silver) for the same price. Both guys know I am looking at the others before I make a decision. Of course each guy claims that the other has a better item. Even the threads from 2001-2004 all have people on both sides of the fence. Both have over 10 years of DJing experience. Both claim that a big name artist have played on there decks before.

Has 10 years of history on the decks revealed a better design? Can someone shed a light on this, or throw some threads at me to read?

Thanks

M3Ds are better than MK2s. They were short-lived and replaced by MK5s after a few years, but they're still better.

....but there's not much difference. A Mk2 can be modified to behave like a M3D or Mk5, if you're brave enough to take the deck apart.

Awesome, thanks.

Is there a difference between mk3s and m3ds? From what I read mk3 are Japanese and have a black cover, while the m3ds are silver? Some people say they are the same, some people say they are different.

I'd go for any deck without a zero pitch click every time.

They are different. The MK3 (Japanese release only) is basically the same as the MK2 but they are finished in very, very dark grey color, close to black (but not black). M3Ds also have a "Japanese release only" version which is the MK3D.

Awesome. Now all the pieces of the puzzle are fitting together.

So Mk3 = Japanese version of mk2 (dark cover)

Mk3d = japanese version of M3D

So I don't want mk3 or mk3d.

If the The "mk3" are actually M3Ds, like they actually say m3d on the Id tag, I should go with those over the mK2

M3Ds are basically new-style MK2s with the following changes:

Pitch control switch removed from pitch fader and moved to separate button (center detent removed too)
Power switch replaced with recessed type
Extra cartridge holder added near tonearm base

I'd go for the M3Ds
