View Full Version : The producer battle battle thread.

How the battles work:
Your one production will face off with a random other production. By random I mean it's up to the battle mods  /invitedtousearandomgenerator. They will be rated as according to the rules http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?7930-First-Annual-Producer-Battle-RULES-AND-ROLL-CALL!
You will submit according to this (http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?181-HOW-TO-Battle-amp-upload-your-file) but with the following exceptions: 320 CBR mp3. File name is "2012producerbattleUSERNAMEsongtitle". When the battles are posted, the username of course will be deleted from filename but the song title will remain.
Winners will face winners of other battles, until one remains.
Please post here when you have submitted a finished mix. You have through the 16th to submit.
I will post the rules that are to be pasted in each thread later. Too lazy atm. They will be a cleaned up version of the ones in the other thread (which has all the rules).
voting rules:
Since there are three submissions we'll have one round of voting with a runoff if no one achieves over 50%
****
Everyone is invited to vote. Please Rank the follow three categories from 1-5 (for a max total of 15 points)
Category A: Playing by the rules.
This accapella must be recognizable in the track, even if only used as small chopped up samples lightly sprinkled.
http://soundcloud.com/huckthig/flipflapjack-v2-2trx
Tracks are to conform to a pop format (but ANY GENRE) which is more or less intro-verse1-chorus1-verse2-chorus2-breakdown/guitarsolo/eurodancerapper/etc-chorus-chorus-outtro
Category B: quality of production, mixdown, and mastering.
Category C: the good stuff. Creativity, vibe, it-factor, free-form vote.
Also you will cast a holistic vote on the forum voting software which serves as a tie breaker.

What does the one winner win?
Hygro
06-14-2012, 08:03 PM
The winner wins being the winner of this contest. It's like rep points, but cooler.
It could be interesting if the winner sets next years rules, but that's just a side comment and I don't mean that.

Lmao everyone dropped out because they couldn't achieve perfection with the sample -.- Next time it won't be so weird, that's for sure. I'll have rules up later. Still one over from a full up, no misuse of the term, as-ideal-as-it-could-be rave from last night.

seriously. I was dying of laughter with my final product. It's like a decent project ruined by a hilarious vocal.

Actually I dropped out because of some silly rule restrictions. :D Mostly the "pop structure" and time restraint. Just not for me really....not sure why everyone else dropped out.

I thought it was actually going to be a serious effect type of deal when it was first thought up. Then it mutated into what it is hah :)

lame reasons ppl.
And by lulz, he meant this was all in fun, not to be taken so serious. If you make a shitty track, no harm done. :argh:

Not able to handle a pop structure is a pretty shitty reason.

Handle? ......errr.. ok man :( If you think I can't handle it then ..erm.. fine.
I more or less didn't like the structure requirement. It's just not how I enjoy producing, and with my daughter taking up nearly ALL of my free time, I'd rather produce for real...not for "fun", ya know? Sorry if I gave you a different opinion of me and my productions. I'll dip out of the thread now, don't want to deter it. Be well all.

How long do you think you'll take? Currently there are only 3 of us, so I don't think anyone would mind deadline extension.

for?
imho, this tourney is fail. Good test run for something bigger next time though.
When it does happen,.. maybe use a vocal or sample that ppl would want to work with. :freak:
Also, less rules for structure.

I think the sample was the main problem. The song structure shouldn't have hampered anyone, but yeah. The voting structure was probably a mistake. The first DJF production competition was very structured: you could only use the 10 instrument sample pack. But the winner completely and utterly cheated and no one wanted to vote in the fixed round. My only beef is that if we have it too freeform, it's not a proper battle. I'm open to suggestions.
But I'm with FunkyFader, I was busy as fuck and had to make an unfinished track that I still quite enjoyed. Oh well.

Was there another before this one? I missed it.
And I agree with you on needing to have some rules set. Not so much with the voting maybe.
