So Chauvet is finally getting into Trussing:

Some competition for Global Truss, especially if the price will be lower.

More to come at InfoComm2012.

Like I mentioned a year ago when they 1st introduced these, I hope they're in stock at my local GC's. I just don't like the idea of shipping a 6' product through the mail at $90 shipping charge. I wanna put my hands on the truss before buying it.

You realize you'll be paying shipping one way or the other. Either dropped shipped to you from Chauvet or shipped to your local GC. Granted if your GC buys a big enough load the shipping expense will amortize better but the difference will probably be made up in paying your State Sales Tax.

I expect to have pricing early next week.

I paid $1140 for two 2M trusses, 2x2 base plates, top plates, and truss socks. With shipping. So $800 would be a pretty solid deal, especially if shipping is included.

I am looking to get a pair of 1.5M trusses soon to use as speaker stands (with both plates + socks), so I may have to wait for these.

I finaLLy purchased myself a pair of 6'5" square truss, connectors + tripod support bars. Got'em locally for $249 each and only $53 for the pair of tripod supports so no shipping was involved.

I really hated the idea of paying ~ $600 for a pair of 6'5" trusses online and over $100 for a pair of supports. I've gotta now see what's the best solution for pre-wiring these puppies up and properly securing things while still keeping them travel ready.

Knowing the price break Global Truss is at, do they (similar product newcomer) always attempt to come in lower with the newer product considering it's probably from the same manufacturer?

BillESC

I generally find Chauvet to be lower priced on comparable products.

I suspect the product lines may come from the same manufacturer and if that's the case mating the brands will not be a problem. As I posted, I'll know next week and post my findings here.

the first line of trusst® is 12-inch (290-millimeter) square truss that utilizes a conical connector system, that easily mates with other major brands of truss of the same size and connector style.

Chauvet is now shipping their Trusst line of truss. They are currently stocking only 12" square sticks, angles, two, three and 6 way junctions along with end plates and bases.

Their pricing is a bit less than Global but the big savings will be shipping for those on the right half of the United States.

The Trusst like will work and mate with Global.

Some pricing info has come out, but I'm not sure if it is correct. According to Bill, Trusst is cheaper than GT, but I'm not seeing it :(

For example, one 1m long section is $300?!?! Nearly twice the price of GT...

http://www.djmundo.com/Chauvet-CT290-410S_p_2083.html

The cheapest I've found it for is for $200 at Farralane, but it is still more expensive than GT:

Shipping is what kills you with trussing. Even when you purchase it at dealer cost, if you don't purchase at least $5000 (global truss anyway) then you pay shipping.

True, however you can buy it from a local dealer and pick it up, saving on the shipping cost. Plus, shipping is cheaper (sometimes free) on smaller sections, and I don't plan on buying any trussing longer than 1m due to portability issues.

BillESC

Chauvet has not set a MAP on the Trusst line, just MSRP.

A set of 6.5' totems with bases, top plates, spandex sleeves and tote bags runs under $ 1500.00 delivered to the lower 48 states.

When you consider the life of this investment (forever!) and the fact that resale in the future should recoup 75% of the initial investment, it's really not that expensive in the long run.

The only difference buying it in store is that they've already paid the shipping and worked it into the price. I'll take dealer cost +shipping any day. How big of rigs do you plan on constructing out of 1M truss? You may come to hate that idea.

So what your saying is that if I choose to have the truss shipped form my local dealer, instead of picking it up, they are going to add an additional shipping cost on top of the original price which already has a shipping cost worked in? I'm no dealer, so I have no clue how this works, but I doubt they would charge me the shipping cost twice.

I see a 1.0M of GT running for around $175 - $200 + shipping cost. I can get it from my local dealer for a bit under $175, and it would be even cheaper if sales tax wasn't worked in, considering we are both in the same state.

I just want want two 6 foot totems, composed of four 1.0m sections. Nothing complicated. I don't plan on doing huge productions or anything. Perhaps an arch type system sometime in the future.

Plus, I'm still waiting to see the MAP prices on Trusst, and keeping my fingers crossed that it will be cheaper.

You'll be ok that way with just a couple totems, what do you plan to use for base plates? I just envisioned like 50 feet of trussing in 1M sections, made my head hurt.

And I guess I'm a little confussed about the shipping thing at this point, all I was saying is that you aren't "saving" by purchasing it from a local supplier, they have already worked shipping into the price your going to pay so to you its the retail price of the item. To them it's dealer cost, +Shipping, +Retail Mark-up.

I'd seriously consider Bills offer as I rarely see his prices or quality of service beat.

No way, lol. I don't need THAT much trussing. I would need a trailer or van just to transport it, and if I actually had a trailer or van, I wouldn't need the truss to be broken down into such small sections. For base plates, i planned on using, well, the base plates from GT. I don't see any other realistic alternatives at this point.

And yes, I will consider Bill's offer, however I still think I will wait until Chauvet's Trusst gains a bit more popularity. I looking forward to the smaller base plates 24x24", which GT unfortunately doesn't carry.

They do and the part is Global Truss 2.2S. They are 49lbs each which means shipping is going to cost you, but I found one dealer (the DJ House - I believe) that provides free shipping on these and the price was ~$170/ea. which is a steal in my opinion. I prefer the smaller footprint of these over the 30" aluminum plates.

Heavy Baseplates are a good thing! Not having handles is kind of a drag, but it's not like the edges are rough and are pretty easy to handle.

I have the 30x30 aluminium base plates. I think those are perfect IMO. Light enough to easily move, handles and still heavy enough to support a TV (especially newer LED tvs) and moving heads.
