Hey there:

It's my first post on the new Forums, but I've been here before and had the privilege of getting feedback from these excellent forums.

So, I have this gig - a wine and chocolate event - that I decided to DJ cause I think it'll be interesting.

The girl that hired me told me that she wanted more "classy music" in her own words (I DJ'ed before for one of her events, but it was straight house, tech house, some prog house and some electro house for a dance party).

I'm thinking of going forward with some more uptempo lounge music (>100bpm) and mixing it up with some deep house around 120bpm with heavy jazz influences and then finishing it up with some pop music (she requested me to have some pop music by the end with lyrics) - I just want to get your opinion on this... is this the way to go?

Thanks a lot and its SO GOOD to have the forums back.

That's exactly what I would do

I've DJ'ed at art galleries before, so this is in a similar league. Rule of thumb, don't get super clubby.

6th borough project, The Revenge, Mark E, house-y, downtempo with elements of pop. Might help bridge between Jason Cerna's suggestions and into the pop stuff.

Hey guys!

Thanks a lot for this feedback! I'll start browsing your suggestions!

And Jason, thanks for reminding me about the clubbiness, as I find it hard to resist my urge to play some bangers!

Take care

St Germain's stuff works for those low key type gigs. I used to do this wine social for the Virginia Tech Graduate Student Association, always used some of those tracks for openers

Why not hit 'em with some jazz-funk, classy, but dance-able, think

Mastercuts (http://www.discogs.com/label/Mastercuts) did loads of comps with stuff like this that you could raid for ideas

jason: hahah i'm on a similar scenario - mit grad students (no matter how hard you hit these guys, they barely move...) - i'm one of them, but i humbly consider myself different from the rest!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. The gig was a success and St Germain was definitely a key part of that!!!

St Germain was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title. Always good for a laidback event
