whats going on guys, my first post on here in 2012 with the new account.
but i wanted to share with you a nice way of changing the color of the 1200s, mine were in not the best shape so i decided to whats called plasti dip them. It is a safe way to" paint" anything with a rubber coating that peels off very easily without any damage to the surface, i used it on my motorcycle first then i got the idea to do my technics haha.
Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions. I did the first table 2-3 months ago and been using it 2-3 a week for gigs and works flawless so yesterday i decided to do the other one and made a small video on it.
heres the video

here is the video of how it peels off.....this guy has a bunch of videos that will help you understanding the plasti dip stuff so check them out. It costs like 5$ a can in home depot!

Thats pretty fucking impressive. How is it as far as dust gathering and clean up?

When I was first experimenting with Technics refurbs, this was my method. I just wrapped tape on all the areas I didn't want to paint. It was/is really easy and quick alright but unfortunately, the paint doesn't last and fades easily especially on the area near the pitch fader and the start/stop/33/45 buttons.
Repainting a Technics may look easy with this procedure but the proper painting lies on the proper preparation. Disassembling, sanding, primer, base paint, top coat, buffing, refacing, etc.

well this isn't paint and the surface does not need to be scuffed sanded etc, just needs to be cleaned of oils. yes it peels off very easily check it out on youtube. it would be silly to take the turntable apart for a process like this because it looks very good as it is. the dust is not an issue because you can wash the table with wet cloth and such.
after all they plasti dip whole cars in this stuff so it can be washed and cleaned. and I did parts of.my motorcycle.

haven't been on there in few days :D
o well i just posted it if anyone is interested, comments don't really affect my feelings haha since they looks very good, and work flawlessly, costed me nothing, and i can return them to stock in 2 minutes. I totally understand if someone doesn't want to do this to their tables, and i wouldn't either if they were in mint condition.

I like the idea for a quick temporary solution to bringing your decks out to a party or just any temporary protection. I don't see it as a long term solution though. Thanks for sharing this.

For the purpose of just changing the color temporary it looks to be fine. Sure if you want them to look flawless you'll need to disassemble them, sand, etc. but if you're not sure you want to change the color or you are just using them at home this is a basic way of doing so.

I'd go the other way - pimp the hell out of my home set (take apart, sand, paint) and have a replaceable and changeable color scheme for playing out - I could match the the party's color themes, etc.

Yea see I end up in pics with my decks weekly so my set that goes out stays looking nice. My home set on the other hand not so much.

I eneded up selling them and i sold them for alot more then i bought them for. Guy loved the look of them black, they looked real good. But wanted to see them underneath, so i peeled it off in front of him. He gave me deposit, and I redipped them for him the same day, and he picked them up that evening.
For people that say it looks terrible, how so? its a smooth flat black finish lol
anyways im getting pioneer cdj and djm setup now

not bad looking for a short term solution and you can frequently change the color too. Probably going to dip my car wheels for the winter with something different
