Hey guys and dolls

I'm thinking about doing an online course/ or getting lessons in ableton online and was just wondering who/where is the best value out there on the net? I can't justify paying 5k on a dubspot course, any other recommendations?

thanks all

I don't know if there's really a need to pay to learn. There's a TON of free tutorials and videos online. Just search on YouTube. Dubspot has a lot of free stuff on there. And even here on DJF you're questions can get answered. I guess if you're all YouTube'd out then this might be an option. I've heard a lot of good stuff about sonic academy. But no harm in spending the money on equipment instead.

any of you guys here anything about quantize courses? fairly pricey, looking for something a bit cheaper!

I like the idea of a course, set structure, none of this messing around on you tube, I have sooo much time on it!

Ah okay. Well either way you'll probably learn a lot, one will just take longer. As far as quantize courses I know their videos are pretty helpful.

I'm pretty happy with my Sonic Academy subscription.. Haven't used it too much, and the results they get themselves aren't always top notch, but the give you a great idea of what is needed :)

They are good, I have a couple of their videos since they run specials all the time and you can usually get em cheap. Id say watch some of the demo vids of the one you are thinking about getting since they have a couple different people that do them. I love timothy allen's vids but some of the others Im not too keen on

This is right. Google is your best teacher, along with the Ableton forum. Also before you invest in ANYTHING, do built in Ableton tutorials. They are SO transparent and well done.

I can also recommend Future Music magazine. I just recently bought a 1 year subscription and I love it! It's not too tutorialoriented, but the "In the studio with" section of each magazine proved really helpful to me, as you get a walkthrough of an artists track. They have had Fatboy Slim, Louis La Roche, Skrillex and Joker in the 2 latest, and no matter what kind of music you're into, there's great knowledge in there ;)

I really like interviews with producers. I always learn one good thing.

Definitely. I read so many online that I probably forget half of it (I should start writing down the best tip from each one, or something...) but you're right.

what do you think is a reasonable charge for an online course nowadays? 5k is stupid. £40 for exclusive vids or? (we are producing courses at the mo... so would be interesting to find out)

I dunno how people are forking out 5k for online courses, especially online!

£40 sounds good

Seems like they mostly do Ableton Courses, where's the love for FLS? I use FLS but I'm seriously considering picking up Ableton for these courses...

You should consult with sonic academy.
